A top contender for governorship seat of Nasarawa state in forthcoming
general elections under All Progressives Congress (APC) platform
Alhaji Dauda Shuiabu Kigbu has again berated the calls for zoning of
governorship slot to Nasarawa North, saying that those making the
calls were economical with the truth on ground, pertaining to the
contest for governorship election in the state.
Alhaji Kigbu, who spoke with Voice of America (VOA) and monitored by
Nasarawa Eye Newspaper in Lafia yesterday, maintained that in the
history Nasarawa state, there was never a time when the people of the
state sat and agreed that the position of governor be rotated amongst
the three senatorial districts of the state.
Alhaji Kigbu stressed that since 1999 when Nigeria returned to
democratic rule, the position of governorship of Nasarawa state have
been contested for by people from all the three senatorial districts
of the state, with no exceptions.
He explained that in 1999, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu contested for
governorship of Nasarawa state along with some people from the other
two senatorial districts, similarly in 2003 when he ran for second
term.
Alhaji Kigbu who retired from federal civil service as federal
permanent secretary, further stressed that same scenario played out in
2007 when other people from Nasarawa North contested along with late
Aliyu Akwe Doma.
He stated that in 2011 and 2015 there were people from other
senatorial districts that contested with the incumbent governor Umaru
Tanko Al-makura.
He noted that there were occasions when some candidates from the
northern senatorial district contested for the governorship of the
state up to Supreme Court.
While challenging those who are making noise about zoning to come out
with a signed document by political elites in the state on rotation of
governorship position in the state also reiterated that those
clamouring for zoning are not being fair and just.
According to him, to concede the position of governorship of the state
to Nasarawa North is as good as meting out injustice to the people of
the other zones, saying that he who goes to equity must go with clean
hands.
Alhaji Kigbu who described ombatse phenomenon as unfortunate however,
stated that he, along with other prominent individuals and traditional
rulers in the state, played a decisive role in snuffing out ombatse in
the state, maintaining that he seek to govern Nasarawa state to
entrench peace, unity and justice amongst the various communities in
the state.
He then expressed his readiness to abide by all the guidelines put in
place by the All Progressives Congress (APC) with regards to party
primaries in the state adding that power belongs to God and he gives
it to whomever he wish and at the time he desires.
