The performance of AEDC in Lafia is particularly something that is ordinarily supposed to attract the attention of government of Nasarawa, including stakeholders, but due largely to a lack of concern for the plight of the people, neither government nor stakeholders raises any questions about this performance. Agreed Governor Abdullahi Sule once visited the headquarters of the company in Abuja following protests by some youth in Lafia; equally, the state deputy governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, also visited the company following protests by the NLC. In all these visits, there was no genuine concern by the government towards addressing the plight of the people regarding electricity supply to Lafia. Little wonder the visits have not yielded any positive results to date. Disturbed by this nonchalant attitude of the government, some individuals in Lafia have had to drag the company to court for their failure to adhere to the number of hours of electricity contained in the tariff band they placed Lafia on, which is band A. The case is still pending before High Court 5 in Lafia. Only last week, some youth had to stage another protest at the AEDC office in Lafia on the same problem. Still no positive outcome. From all these, the blame has to go to the government of Nasarawa State for not paying due attention to the non-performance of AEDC in Lafia, which is a complete negation of responsibilities. The government has to take concrete action by telling the AEDC, in black and white, to live up to their responsibilities or pack and leave the state. There are other Discos like Jos Discos that government can do business with. As things stand today, the youth in Lafia are clearly and steadily being pushed to the wall which if adequate care is not taken AEDC attitude may lead to an unpleasant situations in the state.
