Editorial: Insecurity in Lafia: A timely Intervention By Aminu Muazu Maifata

As part of security measures to ensure public safety, the chairman of Lafia Local Government Council, Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata, yesterday held an expanded security meeting where far-reaching but timely decisions were taken to forestall the increasing insecurity in Lafia. Of course, insecurity in Lafia is increasingly taking on serious dimensions, requiring serious measures to forestall its escalation. In Lafia today, hardly a day passes by without recording one security breach or another. One particular case mentioned is that of kidnappings for ransom. This form of criminality assumes disturbing dimensions, such that the government has to take drastic measures to avoid unwanted situations. In light of this current security situation in Lafia Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata (Jarumin Lafia), has convened an expanded security council meeting to look at the ways and means by which such forms of criminality could be curtailed. The meeting unanimously agreed on the following measures: restriction of motorcycle movement from 6:00 p.m. to 6 a.m., restriction of tricycle movement from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. While these restrictions are to take effect on Monday, June 3, 2024, the meeting directed security agencies to ensure total compliance and Traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents are urged to monitor the influx of people entering Lafia Local Government Area and report any suspicious individuals. The meeting also urged people to give vital information to security agencies for prompt action. We at Nasarawa Eye believe that the action taken by Aminu Muazu Maifata in his capacity as chief security officer of Lafia Local Government Area will go a long way in addressing the menace of kidnappings for ransom in Lafia and its environs. We want to also advise the people of Lafia to cooperate fully with security agencies towards finding solutions to this and other forms of criminality. People must not look at these restrictions as an attempt to stop them from pursuing their means of livelihood. On the part of security agencies, they too must not look at the restrictions as a means of extortion. We must all look at these security measures as part of ensuring the security of lives and properties, contributing our little efforts towards the progress and development of Nasarawa State.
