Senator Wadada: A Man Whose Time Has Come.

By Dr. Idris KEANA.
In the evolving political landscape of Nasarawa State, one name has steadily emerged as a beacon of hope, leadership, and resilience—Sen. Ahmed Aliyu Wadada. With a career marked by significant achievements and a deep-seated passion for the welfare of his people, Sen. Wadada’s journey is one of perseverance and unwavering commitment to public service. Wadada’s political career began in earnest when he was elected two terms as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Keffi, Kokona, and Karu Federal Constituencies. During his tenure, he distinguished himself as a capable and visionary leader, eventually rising to the position of Chairman of the House Committee on Capital Market. His time in this role was marked by strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s capital market, further solidifying his reputation as a leader with the acumen to drive economic growth and development.
In 2015, Sen. Wadada set his sights on the Southern Senatorial District seat, challenging the formidable former Governor Abdullahi Adamu in an election which circumstances beyond explanation saw him lose the seat, a development that was both disappointing and disheartening for his supporters. However, this setback did not deter him. Instead, it fueled his resolve to continue serving the people of Nasarawa State in whatever capacity he could.
Sen. Wadada’s aspirations reached new heights in 2019 when he contested for the gubernatorial ticket within his party. In a fiercely contested primary election, he narrowly lost to Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule. Recognizing his capabilities and the value he brought to the table, Sen. Wadada was appointed as the Director-General of Engr. Sule’s campaign council. Under his strategic guidance, the campaign succeeded, leading to Engr. Sule’s eventual victory in the gubernatorial election.
Beyond politics, Sen. Wadada has also made a mark in the private sector, particularly in his role as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Peugeot Automobile of Nigeria. His tenure was characterized by a relentless drive to revive the once-moribund multi-billion naira industry. Through his efforts, Peugeot Automobile of Nigeria witnessed a resurgence, with increased productivity and a renewed sense of purpose.
Undeterred by past challenges, Sen. Wadada returned to the political arena in 2023, aspiring to represent the Southern Senatorial District once more. However, his journey within the APC was cut short, prompting his resignation and subsequent move to the Social Democratic Party (SDP)—a party with little or no presence in Nasarawa State. Against all odds, he secured a landslide victory, a testament to his popularity and the trust the people of Nasarawa State have in his leadership. His victory was further validated when he was appointed as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, a position reserved for the most distinguished and capable senators.
Sen. Wadada’s appeal transcends ethnic, religious, and political boundaries. His deep love for humanity and concern for the well-being of all residents of Nasarawa State have endeared him to many. His vision for the state is one of inclusivity, unity, and progress—where every individual, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to thrive.
As Nasarawa State looks towards the future, the call for Sen. Wadada to contest the governorship election in 2027 grows louder. His track record of success, his commitment to the people, and his proven ability to deliver on promises make him a formidable candidate for the highest office in the state. In Sen. Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, the people of Nasarawa State see not just a leader, but a man whose time has truly come. The journey ahead may be challenging, but with Sen. Wadada at the helm, there is hope that Nasarawa State will continue to grow and prosper, ensuring a brighter future for all its citizens.
