Nigeria At A Cross Road?

BY Yusuf Shehu Usman,mni

Nigerians protested hunger and hardship and some of the protesters are now facing trial for their roles in the protest.

After the government used force or the threat of force and the pliant Judiciary to truncate the protest, life has become even harder for the poor man and now even the silent middle class ( if there is still a class like that in our society) has been hit below the belt and every Nigerian is jolted by the unprecedented hike in the pump price of petrol which was a key issue in the hunger and hardship protest.

The prices of foodstuff, cost of transportation, goods and services have all soared to the sky in one fell swoop as a result of the cruel increase in the pump price of petrol.

As a result hunger has escalated and spread across every corner and cranny of Nigeria and bad governance has persisted

In short, instead of the government to address the causes of the protest, it has exacerbated the already bad situation by inflicting even more hardship on Nigerians. The clamp down on the protesters is a design to nib in the bud any attempt to stage any other organised protest.

Who will risk a protest now even in front of his house without exposing himself to the risk of arrest, incarceration and trial on charges of treasonable Felony and an attempt to pull down a good government by the force of his mouth?

Bayo Onanuga told us that there is nothing we can do even if Tinubu puts a sword on our neck. He said we can’t say and we should not do anything until 2027

Bayo expects Nigerians to continue to live in hunger, hardship and poverty for the next three years and should not even be heard to complain

I don’t blame Onanuga because President Tinubu picked him out of woods and opened up things for him.

He is now earning and feeding fat on our resources. He can’t and does not feel what the ordinary Nigerians are feeling.

In fact nobody on the corridors of power knows what is hunger, what is poverty or what is hardship . They get everything they they need or want free, because we have handed over to them the key to the National vaults

If Nigerians are pushed beyond the wall as they are now, they may not protest but I reckon they won’t watch idly and allow hunger to push them to their early grave.

I don’t know what Nigeria will do but I have a hunch that they will do something if the government does nothing to stop hunger and hardship.
