
The Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Barrister Ayuba Usman Wandai has attended the meeting of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, as part of the strategies to ensure peaceful conduct of the November 2 local government elections.
Barrister Wandai attended the meeting at the headquarters of the Nasarawa State Police Command on Thursday.
In his speech during the meeting, Wandai said the meeting was aimed at creating synergy between his commission and the security agencies operating in the state towards fashioning out ways to deploy security and also ensure seamless relationship with the security agencies.
“We are aware in NASIEC that implementing our statutory mandate directly affects the peace and security of this state, hence the need for us to collaborate closely with security agencies to ensure that we have a peaceful exercise.
The NASIEC Chairman underscored the significant role played by the security agencies for a successful and peaceful conduct of the scheduled council polls.
“We regard our relationship with security agencies as the basis that will give us success in this forthcoming election. It is our hope that the election, based on all that we have arranged and agreed on, will be peaceful and orderly,” he stated.
Wandai appreciated participants at the meeting for attending the event despite the short notice.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, Co-Chairman of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shehu Umar Nadada, said the meeting was called in order to discuss on election security for the forthcoming local government council elections which is slated for November 2.
The CP pointed out that the meeting was necessary for the participants to discuss towards ensuring that a high degree of professionalism is exhibited during the election.
He added that during the meeting participants will discuss on the level of preparedness, after the NASIEC chairman has briefed the committee.
