Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada is sponsoring a bill for the establishment of the FCT Satellite Towns Development Commission to cater for the socioeconomic development of FCT Satellite Towns. Speaking in an interview with Newsmen in Abuja Sunday, Senator Wadada noted that he sponsored the same bill when he was at the house of representatives, and the bill passed second reading but somehow couldn’t go beyond second reading. “Because I feel strongly about the bill, I presented it again before the tenth senate.” He explained that what the bill seeks to establish is a commission that would serve as a common coffer where FCT would contribute, the federal government would contribute, and the contiguous states of Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Kaduna would contribute. Senator Wadada further explained that the funds in the common coffer would be utilized to take care of socioeconomic problems of the contiguous communities or the nearest communities of these contiguous states to FCT. He stressed that because of the influx of people, Nasarawa State cannot handle the socioeconomic challenges in Mararraba, nor can Kaduna handle that of Tafa. And neither can Niger handle that of Suleja down to areas before Bwari, nor can Kogi take care of Katon-karfe. He noted that if the bill scales through, the benefits that would accrue in areas of employment, curbing social hazards and insecurity, and the rest would be enormous.
