Senator Wadada Reacts To Insinuations About His Alleged Disrespectful Behaviour

Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada has reacted to insinuations peddling in some quarters about his alleged disrespectful behaviour. Speaking in an interview with Newsmen in his residence in Keffi yesterday, Senator Wadada explained that disrespectful actions are not in his character and it will never be in his character. He said that the training he received from his father, the late Danyaya, has been one that was rooted in respect for elders and obedience to all, regardless of age and status in the society. Senator Wadada, who is a senator representing Nasarawa West, stressed that he has never been found guilty of acting in association with disrespect to elders right from his childhood, adding that all his friends and associates can testify to his level of tolerance, respect, and obedience to elders. Senator Wadada, however, admitted that his character is such that he can not see something that is not right and keep his mouth shut. “What I know is that I can not see or hear anything that is wrong or hear something that is not right and keep quiet. I must point out the wrong to your face and damn the consequences; maybe that is what people are referring to as an act of disrespect. And another thing that I know for a fact is that I am fearless; my late father told me not to fear anything or anybody in as much as I am on the right path. So I don’t know whether being a truthful person or being fearless is an act of disrespect or amounts to disrespect,” Senator Wadada asked. Citing examples to buttress his point, the senator said, “In 2015, I aspired for the Senate to represent Nasarawa West; there is no gainsaying much about that; I won the elections by votes and lost by manipulation. The PDP went to court. I didn’t go to court. PDP went to court, and it was obvious that we were going to be given back our stolen mandate; but elders and leaders intervened, and the case was withdrawn if I am not respectful, I won’t have agreed to withdraw the case”. Senator Wadada also went on to reveal that in 2019, when he contested for the governorship election and lost in the APC primary election, people expected the usual Wadada, because you don’t trample on my privileges or rights and think that I will let you go. You are not there; I give you respect, but you trample on my right; I stand for it. So if I can’t stand for my own right, how do I stand for the right of the people that I will claim to represent?Going on memory line to further support his assertion of being respectful, Senator Wadada disclosed thus: “Before A. A. Sule was finally declared the winner of the elections in 2019, about 2 or 3 of the aspirants, our colleagues aspirants, said that because of the suspected role played by the then government, we should scuttle the election. I said, Fantastic idea. I now left them seated where they were, and I went back to where I was before they drew my attention, and on going back to my seat, I said, Come to look at it, talking to myself,Come to look at it. Why should I be a factor of destabilization? I grew up to see a relationship, a deep relationship, between His Royal Highness, Alhaji Sule Bawa, and my late father, Danyaya. In my growing -up days, I used to think at a point that they were brothers: Alhaji Sule Bawa, Alhaji Mustapha Gudi, and Danladi Halilu’s father, Halilu Rinze. I used to think all of them were brothers. So I sat down, and I said, Why should I be a party to this plan? A. A Sule was the son of Alhaji Sule Bawa, Sarkin Gudi; what’s the difference? Shortly before the declaration, coincidentally or unknown to him, A. A. Sule went to sit close to those that wanted us to scuttle the process. So I stood up from my seat, went to him, and said congratulations ahead. I congratulated him before he was finally declared, “If I am not respectful and obedient, I couldn’t have punctured the plans without me talking to anybody, and I now went round. After that I went to Hassan Liman (SAN). I said to him, “Do you know what we should do?He said, “No”. I said, “When the declaration is made, and if or when the declaration is made, we should all stand by A. A. Sule for him to accept; that will tell the people of Nasarawa State that we are all in it together, and it will douse the tension. And you, that you are the only one from Lafia, you will speak on behalf of all of us”.And that was what happened. If I hadn’t been respectful, I couldn’t have aborted that destabilization idea. Senator further added. On what happened after that, Senator Wadada said, “Immediately that happened, I was leaving the venue; of course journalists, your colleagues, they wanted or they thought they were going to see the usual Wadada. They said, “What can you say about this result?” I said, “The people have spoken, so I am with the voices of the people. May God bless it.” My Supporters came around, and I said, Let’s go, without them knowing where we were going to go. They were all driving behind me, straight to Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura’s house. Al-Makura saw me, and he couldn’t really believe it; he was expecting me to start lamenting, and I said, “Your Excellency Sir, with due respect, that was not what brought me here; I have come here to congratulate all of us, to tell you I have accepted the result, and to remind you and us that PDP is around the corner. The earlier we unite ourselves and work together, the better.” I prayed, and I left his house. I also went to Keffi straight to Abdullahi Adamu’s and told him I have accepted the voice of the people.Days after, they had a meeting; there it was decided that I should be called upon to chair the campaign council, but who was to call me? Because virtually everybody was guilty about what happened, unknown to them, Wadada has moved on because that’s my other name: MOVED ON. So my elder brother A. A. Sule volunteered to talk to me. I think I was in Lagos or somewhere else, but definitely I was not in Nasarawa State, not even in Northern Nigeria. I think I was in Lagos. He got to me; we just finished a meeting, and he was asked to talk to me that I should play this role. I said, “Your Excellency, you for what you are, the son to Sarkin Gudi, and I, Wadada, the son of Danyaya, how possible will it be for me to be called upon to drive what will be of value addition to you, and I will say no? I am more than available, and I will do it to the best of my ability.”And everybody saw I did it to the best of my ability. Why should anybody be worried about the favours of Allah on me? Senator Wadada queried. And went on: “When Allah Himself said, “Is there any reward for good other than good?’ I think I have been good to the best of my ability. So nobody should be worried about the good coming to me because our God is a fair and just Lord. After going through that, they said I was going to be appointed as minister; at the end of the day, it did not happen. Again, they said I was going to be given a ministerial appointment. Nobody stopped it; God did not destine it, and personally I didn’t take it as anything because I have held a position higher than that of a minister, because being a member of the House of Representatives is constitutionally higher than being a minister, so I moved Senator Wadada concluded.
