Revitalization Of PHC: NAPHDA Executive Secretary Advocates Community Participation

The Executive Secretary, Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, NAPHDA, Dr. Usman Iskilu Sale, has advocated for more stakeholder participation in revitalizing the primary healthcare facilities in the state. He said that achieving universal health coverage in Nasarawa state can only be possible when primary healthcare facilities are revived through provisions of adequate infrastructure and needed manpower so as to render efficient service delivery.The executive secretary stated this while featured in a special radio programme broadcast separately on NBS and Breeze FM in Lafia today, Tuesday, and also underscored the role of local government councils as the key owners of primary healthcare centres. While unveiling the ongoing collaboration between NAPHDA and local government council Chairmen, Dr. Iskilu observed that this collaboration is a necessary step to improve PHC services in the state.The executive secretary used the 30-minute programme to highlight the readiness of the state government to revitalize the project of 58 PHCs in the state, disclosing that in the next six months, when the project is completed, the state would meet the universal health coverage, which is in tandem with international best practices. He noted that after the completion, people would begin to access basic healthcare services. Dr. Iskilu commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for the provisions of healthcare facilities and for timely payment of counterpart funding for routine immunisation in the state. ”When these 58 PHC facilities are revitalized, every electoral ward in the state would have at least one functional PHC to service the community.”. He added.He maintained that Since one of the primary objectives of primary healthcare centres is to make healthcare more affordable, Dr. Iskilu said that the establishment of the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency by the state government has facilitated the affordability of the health services to the people. According to him, the state government has enrolled many vulnerable individuals into the scheme to fasttrack access to healthcare services, adding that the state government needs commendations from the people for being adequately taken care of in their health.
