Aminu Muazu: The Making Of A Giant Politician

The piece you are about to read on Aminu Muazu Maifata (Jarimin Lafia, Madugun Shabu) was written some years ago, but I am reproducing it now due to its significance in light of his inauguration today as Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs by Engr. Abdullahi Sule: Happy Reading.

Aminu Muazu Maifata is a prominent figure in Lafia politics, deeply rooted in the community’s political landscape. His late father, Alhaji Muazu Maifata, was a well-known politician during Nigeria’s Second Republic, actively participating alongside notable figures such as Alhaji Yahaya Sabo and Senator Haruna Abubakar. This legacy has undoubtedly influenced Aminu’s political journey.

Aminu began pursuing elective office in Lafia with aspirations to become the chairman of the local government. Despite multiple attempts, he initially faced setbacks but demonstrated patience and respect for the wisdom of elder voices in the community. His perseverance paid off when he was elected chairman of Lafia Local Government Area on May 26, 2018,

Since taking office, Aminu has exemplified integrity and commitment to public service. He has initiated numerous projects aimed at improving the living standards of his constituents, including:

Infrastructure Development: Rehabilitation of the Local Government Secretariat’s generator and borehole, renovation of the executive chairman’s office, and construction of township roads.

Education Initiatives: Purchase of land for classroom construction at Lafia East Primary School and provision of desks and chairs for various primary schools.

Healthcare Improvements: Renovation of health facilities, including fencing at the Primary Health Care Clinic in Tsohon Kasuwan Tomatoes.

Community Support: Assistance to flood victims, registration of indigent students for examinations, and donations to those affected by disasters.

Aminu Muazu Maifata also prioritizes security in Lafia. He has  reconstructed police station fencing to enhance safety for both residents and law enforcement agencies.

In addition to his role as chairman of Lafia and Nasarawa ALGON, he served as the National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), where he furthered his commitment to local governance. Recently sworn in as the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development in Nasarawa State, Aminu continues to leverage his experience to foster development in the state

His dedication to service and community upliftment has solidified his reputation as a respected leader and politician of repute in Nasarawa State
