Senator Wadada’s Perspective On Disappointment

BY RAYYANU BALA.                    Senator  Ahmed Wadada Aliyu in a recent media interview, expressed his perspective on disappointment, stating that it has no place in his life. He emphasized that he views every setback as an opportunity to advance, coining the phrase “move-on” as his second name.

Reflecting on his political career, he recounted losing the APC governorship primaries in 2019 to Engr. Abdullahi Sule. Instead of dwelling on the loss, he congratulated both Sule and former governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, demonstrating his commitment to moving forward. Wadada believes that one cannot attain what is not destined by Allah, reinforcing his faith in divine timing for his political aspirations.

Looking ahead to 2027, he remains optimistic about becoming governor, asserting that if it is Allah’s will, nothing will stand in his way. Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada has navigated numerous challenges throughout his political career, yet he consistently moves forward, undeterred by past setbacks. Initially, he faced defeat in his bid for a third term in the House of Representatives under the PDP, losing to late Hon Ishaq Ahmed Kana of the CPC. Despite this, he continued his political journey. In 2015, he contested for the Senate against Senator Abdullahi Adamu but was defeated, allegedly through manipulation. He chose not to pursue legal action further, instead focusing on his faith. In 2019, Wadada lost the APC governorship primaries to Engr. Abdullahi Sule but remained committed to the people of Nasarawa State.

In 2023, after facing significant challenges, Wadada left the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), overcoming skepticism and building a new support base. His resilience paid off as he won the Senate election for Nasarawa West, defeating strong opponents from the APC and PDP. This victory marked a significant political upset, given the influence of the APC in Nasarawa State. Throughout these challenges, Wadada’s dedication to his people and his perseverance have been key to his success.
While at the Senate, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada has sponsored several key bills in the Tenth Senate, focusing on education, finance, and development. Some notable bills include: the bill aims at establishing a College of Agriculture and Fishery in Umaisha, Toto Local Government Area. It has been passed into law and awaits presidential assent. Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa Upgrade Bill: The bill seeks to upgrade the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa to a Federal University of Mining Engineering and Technology, leveraging Nasarawa State’s solid mineral resources and the Satellite Town Development Commission Bill: This bill proposes creating a common fund to address socio-economic challenges in communities near the FCT, such as Mararaba-Karu, among others.
There is also an
Audit Service Bill which aims at clarifying the roles of the Auditor-General of the Federation to enhance auditing capabilities to address national challenges.

These bills and many others demonstrate Senator Wadada’s commitment to improving education, infrastructure, and governance in the country. This is in addition to being instrumental in reversing the decision to relocate the NCDC headquarters from Minna to Lafia. Political commentators in Nasarawa State believe that the successor to Governor Abdullahi Sule should be well-connected and capable of attracting investors and federal presence. Senator Wadada is seen as the only aspirant with these qualities, making him a strong candidate for the governorship. Last Saturday, he was spotted in Lagos with Governor Sule and other key figures in the Nigerian economy, further solidifying his position as a potential leader.
However what is worth noting is the fact that Senator Wadada’s strong faith in Allah and his perspective guide him through challenges. His commitment to serving the people and his unwavering dedication to his beliefs are key aspects of his leadership style and deep- rooted faith and conviction in his actions and decisions.
