The Executive Chairman Toto Local Government Council Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya, has trained 60 Vigilantes in order to tackle insecurity, promote peace and unity in the area.
The Chairman stated this during the passing out parade of the 60 Vigilante personnel held in Toto LGA recently.
It would be reported that the 60 vigilantes cut across the four major ethnic groups in the area which are Egbira, Bassa, Gbagyi and Gade respectively.
He said that the vigilante personnel were trained by the Nigerian Army on how to gather and share useful information to other conventional security agents.
” To curtail further conflicts which may degenerate into crisis.
” Lesson of our past experiences is a enough and we will never go back to that age anymore” he said.
The chairman appreciated the Nasarawa State Government, Nigerian Army, other security agents, Institute for Integrated Transition and NGO and the traditional rulers as well as the entire people of the area for their support in seeing to the success of the exercise.
He charged the trained personnel to consider the interest of Toto local government above their personal or tribal interests.
” This is to achieve permanent peace and for the overall development of Toto Local Government Area” he added.
Also speaking, the State Permanent Secretary on Security Matters Mr Maikeffi Ada commended the bold steps taken by the people of Toto local government area in ensuring that peace reign in the area.
” Any local security outfit that has one ethnic group is a tribal militia and the state government has ban that since” he said.
He charged the personnel on honesty and fairness while discharging their responsibilities .
On his part, Capt. Abbas, the Commanding Officer, Kenyihu Army Camp said the training is to enable a complete security agencies efforts in promoting unity and peace in the area.
” You are to work in synergy with the security agents to identify and report bad elements to the appropriate authorities so as to ride criminals out of Toto LGA” he said.
It would be reported that the highlights of the event include special parade by the passing out special squad Vigilante personnel.
The representative of Bassas, Egbira, Gbagyi and Gade both commended the chairman’s peace approach which is fast yielding result.
