In light of misinterpretations surrounding the stalled Keffi–Nasarawa–Toto Road project, it is important to set the record straight and ensure that the people of Nasarawa State, particularly the communities of Keffi, Nasarawa, and Toto, are not misled by half-truths and political rhetoric.
A statement issued in Lafia and made available to Nasarawa Eye indicated that Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada is not responsible for executing the project. He is neither the contractor nor the agency tasked with implementing road construction. His role as a seasoned lawmaker is to facilitate, advocate, and monitor government action for the benefit of his constituents.
“As such, all correspondences and follow-ups initiated by Senator Wadada regarding this road project are directed at the Federal Ministry of Works, FERMA, and other responsible agencies. His efforts are meant to accelerate the resumption of work, not to delay it.”
“As Chairman of the Senate Public Accounts Committee (SPAC) Sen. Wadada understands that the Senate is not a place for empty grandstanding. That is why he is diligently gathering the relevant facts and documentary evidence required to sponsor a credible, fact-backed motion on the floor of the Senate.”
“He is not speaking on whims or populist slogans. He is communicating with all necessary ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to ensure that when this matter is brought before the Senate, it is done so with clarity, legal substance, and strategic direction.”
“Some confusion has arisen regarding SPAC’s role. Let’s clarify: SPAC acts only on issues officially queried by the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation. This means unless there is a financial irregularity or breach raised by the Auditor-General, the committee has no jurisdiction to take action.”
” In contrast, it is the Senate Committee on Works that can summon contractors, evaluate progress, and direct executive action on stalled federal road projects. Therefore, any attempts to blame Senator Wadada or SPAC for delay in physical works are misplaced and reflect a lack of understanding of legislative structure.”
“Beyond legislative duties, Senator Wadada is also actively pursuing presidential-level intervention to ensure funding bottlenecks are addressed and the road project is prioritized in emergency infrastructure frameworks. These are not actions of a man idle or disengaged, they are actions of a leader fully invested in delivering results.”
“We understand the frustration of the people. The suffering caused by the dilapidated state of the Keffi–Nasarawa–Toto road is real, and the neglect is unacceptable. But let us not be distracted by political mischief or uninformed propaganda.”
“Instead, we must rally behind those who are actually fighting for solutions. Senator Wadada’s letters and meetings are aimed at getting this road completed, not postponed.”
“Let us hold the right authorities accountable: the Federal Ministry of Works, FERMA, and the contractors not the senator who is putting his name, time, and effort on the line for the people he represents.”
“Similarly Senator Wadada directed that all communications between his office and the Federal Ministry of Works and FERMA on the matter be released to the public.”
