North Remains Committed To It’s Agreement On Power Shift, Says Governor Sule

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has assured that despite the prevailing challenges, the North remains committed to its agreement on power shift, with the South expected to produce the next president come 2027.

Governor Sule gave the assurance while delivering a speech marking this year’s Nzeh Mada annual cultural Festival in Akwanga, weekend.

According to the Governor, the North will still support incumbent President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to retain his position for a second term come 2027.

Regarding the ongoing agitation by some Northern politicians challenging the second term ambition of President Tinubu, Governor Sule promised to speak on the matter at the appropriate time.

He however assured that, just like the North worked hard to get the President elected in 2023, the region will still work hard to get Tinubu reelected in 2027.

The Governor dismissed attempts by some politicians from the North seeking to confuse the people, insisting that the North must uphold its reputation by sticking with the arrangement on power shift.

“If we look at it, you will see how politicians try to create confusion in the polity. Once somebody is not able to get what they are looking for, they try to create all forms of confusion. We can see that at the national level. When the time comes, I will speak authoritatively about it.

As a new Governor then, some of the senior governors were the same people that said the best person for this country, the best person that would change the whole country to be like Lagos State, is Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu. We all worked very hard. It was a challenging period but we worked very hard and made sure we brought Tinubu into office. Today, the same people because they couldn’t get what they were looking for, are going round criticising Tinubu that he is the worst president ever.

“Well, by the grace of God come 2027, we are bringing back Ahmed Bola Tinubu to continue as President of Nigeria. This is a commitment that we have made as the people of the North to say that we have been in leadership for eight years, we should allow the South to rule for eight years. We can not be people seeking something different other than this. Since we agreed to allow the South to rule for eight years, let’s remain patient and allow Tinubu complete his eight years. After that, another person from the North can come and continue. That is the arrangement that we must commit ourselves to,” he stated.

Governor Sule used the opportunity to call on the Mada Nation to unite and shun acts capable of causing disunity, stressing that only with peace and unity would there be progress and development.

He particularly urged the people to appreciate leaders that came to change the narrative and to bring about much needed development.

The Governor commended Hon. J.J. Umaru (Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency), Hon. Abubakar Nalaraba (Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency) as well as Senator Ogoshi Onawo (Nasarawa South) for being impactful and for bringing much needed development to the state.

“It’s not true that only those in the position of Governor can make an impact. If you have people who are determined to make an impact, they will make an impact. Today, JJ Umaru is making a marvellous impact in our zone. As a new member of the House of Representatives he was among those who sponsored the bill for the creation of the North Central Development Commission.

“Hon. Nalaraba was among those that worked hard towards establishing the FCE Keana. Recently, I was in Doma alongside Hon. Nalaraba and Senator Ogoshi Onawo because of a road the people of Doma have been yearning for going all the way to Orozo,” he said.

Governor Sule emphasized on the need to elect leaders that would make impact towards developing the state and country at large.

“Everybody can make an impact as long as you are committed, determined, and you know what to do. I urge the good people of Mada Nation, as well as Nasarawa State to always look to people like these who understand what it means to bring development, what it means to make an impact and make sure we continue to elect such people to occupy positions at the state House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship,” he added.

He expressed satisfaction that his administration’s policy drive on education, particularly skills acquisition, is also receiving attention at the national level, with the Federal Government recently mandating skills acquisition at both primary and secondary schools across the country.

He equally promised to look into the possibility of constructing a mini stadium, as well as a modern bus park in Akwanga as part of the continuous infrastructure drive of his administration.
