In a bold move aimed at tackling youth unemployment and promoting self-reliance, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada has taken significant strides to support entrepreneurial development in Nasarawa State. His recent donation of a brand-new vehicle to the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, is more than a generous gift — it’s a symbol of a growing alliance between political leadership and academic innovation.
The donation was made during a visit by Senator Wadada to the University’s EDC on Monday, where he was warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman. Known for her academic leadership and commitment to innovation, Professor Liman praised the Senator for his “unwavering support and passion” for empowering youth through entrepreneurship.
“Senator Wadada’s contribution is not just about mobility; it’s about momentum,” Professor Liman remarked during their meeting. “His support will go a long way in expanding the reach and impact of the Centre, allowing more young people in Nasarawa State to access life-changing skills and opportunities.”
The Entrepreneurship Development Centre at NSUK has been at the forefront of reshaping the socio-economic fabric of the region. Under the leadership of Professor Rashidah Funke Olanrewaju, the Centre has introduced practical, skill-based programs designed to make students not only employable but capable of launching their own ventures.
During his tour of the Centre, Senator Wadada expressed deep admiration for the craftsmanship and innovation evident in the student projects. “This Centre is not just a place of learning; it’s a hub of possibilities,” he said. He applauded the EDC’s efforts in nurturing creativity and pledged to broaden its reach by facilitating training for unemployed youths across the Nasarawa West Senatorial District.
The Senator’s visit comes in response to a formal request from the EDC seeking collaboration with the National Assembly. His swift action not only reflects a responsive leadership style but also an understanding of the urgent need to address the socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria’s youth.
“Youth unemployment is more than an economic issue—it is a threat to national security,” Senator Wadada said, urging young people to embrace entrepreneurship as a sustainable pathway to independence. He reiterated his commitment to supporting the Centre’s initiatives and called on other stakeholders to contribute towards building a more self-reliant generation.
The donation of the vehicle is expected to significantly improve the Centre’s operational capacity, especially in extending outreach programs to rural areas where training access remains limited.
As Nasarawa State University continues to rise as a beacon of entrepreneurial education, partnerships like this one with Senator Wadada illustrate the power of collaboration in addressing real-world problems. With political will and academic innovation working hand-in-hand, the vision of a self-reliant and economically vibrant youth population in Nasarawa may soon become a reality.
