Dr. Hajara Danyaro’s Mission To End Water Scarcity In Nasarawa

By Our Reporter

In the arid heartland of Nasarawa Central, a quiet revolution is underway led not by a crowd, but by one determined woman. Dr. Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, the lone female legislator in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, is not just making history, she’s changing it, one borehole at a time.

The Member representing Nasarawa Central and Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs has declared an unwavering commitment to solving one of the  most persistent problems in Nasarawa town: water scarcity. Through her Tafisu Rural Water Scheme, she has already brought relief to six out of the seven electoral wards in her constituency.

At a recent ceremony, Dr. Danyaro flagged off the drilling of two new boreholes—one in Gangaren Bage, Nasarawa Central Ward, and the other at Kofar Alhaji Ashata in Nasarawa Main Town Ward. The initiative is more than a campaign promise fulfilled; it’s a lifeline to communities that have struggled for years with limited access to potable water.

“This effort is aimed at providing potable water to my constituents and delivering the dividends of democracy to the people,” Dr. Danyaro said during the flag-off. “I have drilled six boreholes in six electoral wards so far in less than two years, and more are in the pipeline.”

The Tafisu Rural Water Scheme, named to reflect her vision of community-focused development, has become a beacon of hope in Nasarawa Central. In a town where women often bear the brunt of water scarcity—spending hours fetching water from distant or unsafe sources—this project resonates deeply.

Dr. Danyaro’s approach to governance is both inclusive and effective. As the only woman in the state legislature, she carries the dual responsibility of representing her constituency and inspiring other women to take on leadership roles. Her work in the water sector is just one part of a broader agenda that emphasizes grassroots development and community empowerment.

Residents of the benefiting communities have not held back their appreciation. Many have expressed gratitude for the improved access to clean water and applauded the legislator’s unwavering commitment to their welfare.

“She is the first to fulfill such a promise in our ward,” said a local resident at one of the borehole sites. “We pray she succeeds beyond 2027.”

As 2027 looms on the political horizon, Dr. Danyaro is not slowing down. With just one more ward left to complete her borehole promise, and more projects, she remains focused on delivering tangible results.

In a political landscape often clouded by unfulfilled promises, Dr. Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim is a refreshing force—an emblem of purposeful leadership that listens, acts, and delivers. Through her work, she’s proving that effective representation doesn’t need to shout to be heard, it just needs to drill deep, and deliver where it matters most.
