NSHA Postpones Screening Of Area Council Administrators: New Date Fixed

By Our Reporter

In a surprising turn of events, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has officially postponed the much-anticipated screening of Administrators and Members of the 18 Area Administrative Councils across the state. Originally scheduled for Monday, May 19, 2025, the exercise will now take place a week later, on Monday, May 26, 2025.

The announcement was contained in a press statement signed by the Clerk of the House, Mr. Ibrahim Musa, and made available to journalists in Lafia on Saturday. The postponement comes just two days before the previously set date, leaving observers and stakeholders to speculate on the reasons behind the rescheduling.

While the Assembly did not disclose specific reasons for the delay, it expressed regret over any inconvenience the new date may cause. The leadership assured the public and the prospective appointees of its continued commitment to due process and transparency in governance.

The screening, when it holds, will involve 18 appointed Administrators and 72 Members designated to serve in the Area Administrative Councils—structures that are crucial to grassroots governance and service delivery in Nasarawa State.

Despite the shift in date, the Assembly has kept its doors open for the submission of relevant documents. According to the statement, prospective appointees are still encouraged to submit 30 copies of their Curriculum Vitae (CVs) to the House between now and the close of work on Monday, May 19.

The screening exercise is now scheduled to take place at the Assembly complex located on Shendam Road, Lafia, starting at 10:00 AM on the new date.

Political watchers view the development as a test of the State Assembly’s readiness to balance administrative efficiency with accountability. For many residents of Nasarawa, the composition of the Area Administrative Councils is a defining factor in the performance of local governance at the grassroots.

As the new date draws closer, eyes will remain fixed on the Assembly complex, with stakeholders hopeful that the screening will proceed without further delay, ushering in a new cadre of grassroots leaders poised to deliver on the mandate of public service.
