Sometimes, it truly baffles me how individuals who are expected to be educated behave in ways that suggest otherwise. The issue concerning Aliyu Bello, the current APC Chairman in Nasarawa State, and Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu has been discussed repeatedly and, quite frankly, over-flogged.
The relationship between the two men is no secret, all key APC stakeholders in Nasarawa, including the present governor Engr. Abdullahi sule, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Tanko Al-Makura, are well aware of their longstanding connection, which spans over 40 years.
In various forums and interviews with the press at various places, both Senator Wadada and Aliyu Bello have openly and unapologetically acknowledged the existence of this relationship.
That is why it continues to amaze me that people are still talking about it as if it’s some sort of revelation.
The recent piece which appeared in Nasarawa Mirror yesterday 6th June, 2025 and written by one, Zwanke Uyimashi paints Hon. Aliyu Bello, the APC state chairman, as a divisive figure allegedly involved in disloyalty and clandestine dealings with the opposition.
This was not only unfortunate but utterly misleading and unjust to a leader who has shown unwavering commitment to the APC’s ideals and the progress of Nasarawa State.
Firstly, Hon. Aliyu Bello’s tenure as chairman has been marked by significant efforts to maintain party unity and prepare the APC for the critical 2027 elections. The insinuations that he is secretly “courting” opposition forces and undermining the party are also utterly baseless. Such claims undermine the integrity of the party’s leadership and distract from the real work of organizing and strategizing for continued electoral success.
Aliyu Bello since he assumed office as APC chairman he has never breached any section of the party constitution. He remains truthful to the APC, working tirelessly to reconcile competing interests and build bridges across party lines.
In politics, building relationships, even with figures from opposition parties is a necessary strategic approach to ensuring peace, dialogue, and eventual political wins.
Therefore to brand Aliyu Bello as “betrayal” or “political espionage” is simply unfair to him.
Furthermore, the characterization of Aliyu Bello’s leadership as a “silent poison” ignores the complex realities of managing a diverse party like APC in Nasarawa, where multiple interests and personalities must be balanced. True leadership requires tact, patience, and at times, quiet diplomacy, not public grandstanding.
Against this background however, Governor Abdullahi Sule’s deliberate choice to maintain silence on the matter can also be interpreted as a vote of confidence in Bello’s leadership. It suggests a preference for internal resolution over media spectacle, an approach that underscores the maturity and discipline within Nasarawa APC.
The call for disciplinary action against Aliyu Bello as being suggested in the piece was uncalled for as Aliyu Bello has not done anything to warrant such disciplinary measures. This goes to shows that those agitating for taken of disciplinary actions against Aliyu Bello are truly not believers of justice, due process and are not truly APC loyalties.
Any reckless accusations against Aliyu Bello now risk fracturing the party at a time when unity is most critical.
Hon. Aliyu Bello deserves recognition for steering the APC through turbulent waters, not baseless attacks that threaten to derail the party’s progress.
Nasarawa APC stands at a crucial point, and with leaders like Bello at the helm, the party is better positioned to confront internal challenges and secure a victorious 2027.
It is time for APC members and observers alike to rally behind their chairman Aliyu Bello and work collectively toward a stronger, united party that can deliver on its promises to the people of Nasarawa.
