In a strategic engagement poised to shape the future of Nasarawa State’s economy, Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu—renowned for his commitment to sustainable development—met with Mr. John Courmontarus, Chairman of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, at the company’s global headquarters in Manhattan, New York.

The high-level meeting reinforced Senator Wadada’s dedication to advancing Governor Abdullahi A. Sule’s vision of transforming Nasarawa into a hub of industrial growth and investment. Emphasizing the importance of continuity and innovation, Senator Wadada reiterated his intent to preserve and expand upon the legacy projects initiated under Governor Sule, particularly in agriculture, infrastructure, and youth employment.

Central to their discussion was the recently signed $300 million agreement between Nasarawa State and Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc to establish a 15,000-hectare sugarcane plantation in Toto Local Government Area. This landmark initiative, aligned with Nigeria’s National Sugar Master Plan and Backward Integration Programme, aims to accelerate industrialization, bolster food security, and create thousands of jobs across rural communities.

Senator Wadada’s active involvement underscores his readiness to champion and scale transformative projects that promise long-term socioeconomic benefits. During his dialogue with Mr. Courmontarus, the senator advocated for broader engagement beyond sugar production, including expanded investments in rural infrastructure, youth training, and the development of robust agricultural value chains. Of particular interest was the proposed “outgrower” scheme, designed to empower smallholder farmers and foster inclusive growth.

Mr. Courmontarus commended Nasarawa State’s emerging model of collaborative governance. He expressed confidence in the state’s direction under Governor Sule and welcomed the dynamic leadership of Senator Wadada, emphasizing that such public-private synergy is essential for sustainable national development.

The meeting signals a forward-thinking strategy to anchor Nasarawa’s growth on a foundation of continuity and innovation. By leveraging Governor Sule’s groundwork and embracing international partnerships, Senator Wadada is helping position Nasarawa as a leader in agro-industrial development, energy, and commerce.

As Nasarawa State prepares for a new chapter, Senator Wadada’s growing influence in shaping its investment landscape is drawing national attention. His vision is clear—one centered on legacy, impact, and sustainability—offering a blueprint for turning Nasarawa into a beacon of prosperity in Northern Nigeria.

With a strong foundation in place and proactive leaders stepping up, Nasarawa State is well on its way to becoming a regional powerhouse in agriculture, job creation, and inclusive economic development.
