In a decisive move that underscores the importance of party discipline and due process, the Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gayam Ward, Lafia Local Government Area, has officially nullified the purported suspension of the party’s Nasarawa State Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello. The committee described the suspension as illegal, unconstitutional, and a product of bad faith.
The controversy erupted after the Ward Chairman, Ibrahim Iliyasu, and the Ward Secretary, Ibrahim Kwande, allegedly acted unilaterally to suspend Dr. Bello without consulting the wider ward leadership or following the APC’s constitutional disciplinary procedures. This move triggered an emergency meeting of the ward’s executive leadership, where the purported suspension was vehemently condemned.
At the meeting, the committee passed a strong resolution stating that the suspension lacked the knowledge, consent, or quorum of the Gayam Ward Executive Committee. The resolution emphasized that the action was in clear violation of Article 21 of the APC Constitution (2022, as amended), which governs disciplinary procedures within the party.
Describing the conduct of the Ward Chairman and Secretary as “gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of party discipline,” the committee warned that such actions could tarnish the party’s reputation and destabilize its cohesion at all levels.
Key Decisions and Resolutions
The Gayam Ward Executive Committee took several critical steps to restore order and assert its loyalty to the state leadership. First, it unequivocally disclaimed the suspension of Dr. Aliyu Bello, declaring it “invalid, illegal, and of no effect whatsoever.” The committee also condemned the actions of Ibrahim Iliyasu and Ibrahim Kwande as serious constitutional violations.
In a stern disciplinary response, both the Ward Chairman and Secretary were suspended from their positions pending investigation by the party’s disciplinary committee. This move signals the committee’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and internal party regulations.
Furthermore, the committee reaffirmed its “unflinching support and loyalty” to Dr. Aliyu Bello, recognizing him as the “duly elected and legitimate State Chairman” of the APC in Nasarawa State.
The resolution is set to be communicated to the Local Government, State, and National Secretariats of the APC to ensure proper documentation and further action, signaling a transparent approach to resolving internal disputes.
The swift and firm response from the Gayam Ward Executive Committee is seen by political analysts as a critical measure to safeguard the party’s integrity and unity during a time when cohesion is vital.
Under Dr. Bello’s leadership, the APC in Nasarawa State appears determined to consolidate power and discipline, ensuring that internal conflicts are addressed promptly and in accordance with constitutional provisions.
As the party moves forward, the message from Gayam Ward is clear: adherence to due process, respect for legitimate leadership, and unity remain paramount for the APC’s success in Nasarawa state.
