Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu has commended the appointment of His Royal Highness, Hon. Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed I (JSC Rtd, CFR), the Emir of Lafia and Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, as the Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano. The prestigious appointment, made by the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has drawn wide acclaim across Nigeria perticularly from Nasarawa State, where the Emir’s influence is both deeply rooted and widely revered.
Among the first to publicly congratulate the Emir was Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, the Senator representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District and traditional title holder of Magajin Dangi Lafia. In a statement made available to news men in Lafia, Senator Wadada extolled the virtues of the Emir, calling the appointment “a well-deserved recognition of a man whose life has been a beacon of wisdom, dignity, and national service.”
For those who know Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed, the accolade rings true. Before ascending the throne of Lafia, he served with distinction as a Justice of Nigeria’s Supreme Court, where his judgments were known for their depth, fairness, and fidelity to the constitution. His transition into traditional leadership has only broadened his influence, as he continues to guide his people with the same integrity and sagacity that marked his judicial tenure.
“His Royal Highness is a national treasure, an embodiment of judicial excellence, moral authority, and traditional leadership,” Senator Wadada stated. “His appointment as Chancellor is not only a victory for the people of Nasarawa State but a strong message that integrity and intellect remain timeless virtues in Nigeria’s evolving leadership space.”
Indeed, the Emir’s new role at Northwest University, Kano, is being hailed as more than ceremonial but a symbolic convergence of Nigeria’s rich traditional heritage and its pursuit of academic and intellectual excellence. Senator Wadada, a well-known advocate for education reform and youth empowerment, emphasized that the Emir’s appointment heralds “a new dawn” for the university. He expressed confidence in the positive impact the Emir will have on the institution’s moral and academic direction.
“As Magajin Dangi Lafia, I stand in full loyalty and pride behind our Royal Father, whose voice resonates beyond the palace, echoing across communities, institutions, and generations,” the Senator added, offering gratitude to Governor Yusuf for making what he described as an inspired choice.
The response to the announcement in Nasarawa State has been electric. From traditional leaders to political stakeholders, and from community elders to young scholars, the sentiment is the same: pride in a son of the soil whose achievements continue to elevate not just the Lafia Emirate, but the entire state and beyond.
Justice Sidi Bage’s journey from the Supreme Court bench to the royal palace, and now to the helm of one of Northern Nigeria’s rising academic institutions is a testament to a life dedicated to service, justice, and leadership. His story is one of seamless transitions, guided not by power, but by purpose.
As prayers for his continued wisdom, health, and longevity pour in, one thing is clear: His Royal Highness, Hon. Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed I, is not just wearing a crown as Emir of Lafia but he embodies it concluded, Sanator Wadada.
