Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing him as a national icon and a symbol of discipline, integrity, and unwavering patriotism.
In a heartfelt condolence message, the Senator and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts said Buhari’s death marks not only the end of an era but also a moment of national reflection for all Nigerians.
“Innalillahi Wainna Ilaihi Raji’un. With a heart weighed down by sorrow, I join millions of Nigerians and the global community in mourning the passing of a national icon, statesman, and patriot,” Senator Wadada stated.
Reflecting on the late President’s life, Wadada hailed Buhari’s decades of service to Nigeria—from his early days as a military officer, through his first tenure as Head of State in 1983, to his return to power as a democratically elected president in 2015.
“President Buhari was more than a leader; he was a symbol of discipline, integrity, and commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria. He served this nation with deep conviction and love for country that transcended personal ambition,” Wadada said.
The Senator noted that Buhari’s legacy would be remembered in his anti-corruption campaign, efforts to bolster national security, and strides in economic and infrastructural development. While acknowledging that the late leader, like all humans, had his imperfections, Wadada said Buhari’s resilience and courage in facing Nigeria’s many challenges would forever be etched in national history.
Senator Wadada extended his condolences to Buhari’s widow, Her Excellency Aisha Buhari, his children, the people of Katsina State, and the entire nation, urging Nigerians to uphold the values the former President lived and stood for—discipline, patriotism, and national service.
“May Allah (SWT), in His infinite mercy, forgive his shortcomings, reward his sacrifices for Nigeria, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin,” he prayed.
Senator Wadada, who also holds the traditional titles of Sarkin Yakin Keffi and Magajin Dangi Lafia, is a prominent voice in the Nigerian Senate and has been actively involved in the country’s democratic journey.
