The ancient city of Lafia is brimming with anticipation as preparations intensify for one of the most significant traditional events of the year. Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, a distinguished political figure and community leader, will be officially turbaned as Magajin Dangi of Lafian Bare-bari on Saturday, August 2, 2025, following a rescheduling of the initial July 26 date.

The turbanning ceremony, organized by the Lafia Emirate Council, will be held at the historic Emir’s Palace in Lafia. According to a statement released by the Emirate, the adjustment in date is intended to “allow for adequate preparations and ensure a smooth and elaborate organization of the event.”

This grand occasion is the conferment of one of Lafia Emirate’s most revered chieftaincy titles — Magajin Dangi. This title, steeped in history and cultural significance, symbolizes trust, authority, and the weighty responsibility of community leadership.

Presiding over the ceremony will be His Royal Highness, Hon. Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad (Rtd), the Emir of Lafia and Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs. The Emir, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, is widely respected for upholding tradition while promoting modern governance within the state.

Senator Wadada’s selection for the title is viewed by many as a fitting recognition of his longstanding commitment to the development of Nasarawa State. From his tenure in the National Assembly to his grassroots empowerment programs, the Senator has carved a niche as a leader who bridges politics and public service with integrity.

The upcoming ceremony is expected to attract a wide array of dignitaries from across Nigeria, including traditional rulers, political leaders, and civil society figures, as well as thousands of well-wishers from all walks of life. The event promises to be a colorful showcase of the state’s cultural richness and the continued relevance of traditional institutions in modern Nigerian society.

Community members have also begun mobilizing to participate in what is being described as a “historic and unifying occasion” for Lafia and the wider Nasarawa State.

As the countdown to August 2 begins, the people of Lafia are not just preparing for a ceremony, they are preparing to celebrate values that transcend generations: leadership, service, and cultural heritage.

With drums set to echo through the Emir’s Palace and the air abuzz with festivity, the turbanning of Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu as Magajin Dangi will not only mark a personal milestone but also reinforce the enduring bond between Lafia emirate council and Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu.
