Setting The Record Straight On Governor Abdullahi Sule’s 2027 Gubernatorial Plans

By Musa Danladi

The recent article titled “2027: The Choice For APC’s 2027 Gubernatorial Flag-Bearer” by Ayuba Umar which appeared in Nasarawa Mirror makes several speculative assertions about Governor Abdullahi Alhaji Sule’s recent visit to the United Kingdom and the political dynamics in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election. However, a closer and more balanced examination reveals that these claims lack sufficient evidence and are largely based on conjecture rather than facts.

First, the article questions the official purpose of Governor Sule’s trip to the UK, implying that it was a cover for political scheming. This assertion ignores the well-documented fact that the Governor was invited to receive the African Leadership Magazine Award of Excellence—a prestigious international recognition for his impactful governance and commitment to public service. It is neither uncommon nor suspicious for a Governor to be accompanied by senior state officials, such as the Accountant General and the Secretary to the State Government, particularly on official visits where collaboration and briefing on state matters are essential.

The suggestion that the trip was a strategic maneuver to negotiate gubernatorial endorsements is unsubstantiated. Political decisions of such magnitude are typically conducted openly within party forums and consultations. Governor Sule’s leadership style, characterized by transparency and inclusiveness, contradicts the portrayal of covert backroom dealings.

Moreover, the article’s depiction of the political landscape within Nasarawa APC is misleading. It unfairly diminishes the capabilities of potential successors such as Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu without credible basis or acknowledgement of his achievements and contributions to the state. Political competition within parties is healthy and expected; dismissing candidates outright without thorough evaluation undermines democratic principles.

The insinuation that Governor Sule’s administration is authoritarian and corrupt, with the State House of Assembly acting as a “rubber stamp,” is a broad and unfounded generalization. Independent assessments by reputable governance organizations recognize Nasarawa State’s progress under his stewardship, including infrastructural development, enhanced security, and fiscal responsibility. Such statements, without clear evidence, serve only to distort public perception and detract from the genuine accomplishments of the government.

Lastly, the notion that the African Leadership Excellence Award was a mere “façade” to mask ulterior motives is speculative and disrespectful to both the award institution and the Governor’s genuine commitment to service.

In conclusion, while political discussions and preparations for 2027 are naturally underway, it is important to approach such topics with factual rigor and respect for due process. Governor Abdullahi Sule remains focused on delivering good governance and ensuring a peaceful, democratic transition that will benefit all Nasarawa residents.

Let us engage in constructive dialogue grounded in truth and respect for democratic norms.
