The Wadada Threat

By Rayyanu Bala

The political temperature in Nasarawa State has risen sharply as Senator Ahmed Wadada makes bold moves that are shaking the foundations of the state’s political establishment. His turbanning as Magajin Dangin Lafian Bare-Bari, held with pomp and pageantry yesterday, drew an impressive array of high-profile national and regional figures, sending a clear signal to his opponents ahead of the 2027 elections.

Representing the Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Senator Wadada is proving to be more than just a contender for the governorship, he is rapidly emerging as a political force capable of redrawing the state’s power dynamics. Through strategic engagements with influential political, traditional, and youth leaders across Nasarawa and beyond, he is positioning himself as a unifying and formidable figure.

What has particularly drawn attention is his ability to attract heavyweight political personalities individuals who command loyalty and wield influence across party lines and voting blocs. Among those who graced his turbanning ceremony were serving and former governors, senators, ministers, technocrats, and respected grassroots mobilizers, all of whom openly appreciates Wadada’s political vision. Their public support signals the rise of a powerful coalition capable of challenging any existing political structure in the state.

Political analysts have described Wadada’s turbanning as a “calculated and intimidating” move, emphasizing the significance of the personalities aligned with his growing support base.

Musa Adamu, a political analyst in Lafia, noted: “What Wadada is doing is more than politicking. He’s building a political machinery rooted in credibility, connection, and capacity. It’s no surprise his opponents are nervous, some of these figures he’s aligning with command immense loyalty and support nationwide.”

From Lafia to Karu, Wamba to Awe, and other parts of the state, residents are expressing growing enthusiasm for Senator Wadada’s leadership. Many cite his track record, accessibility, and extensive political network as the foundation of their support. For them, he represents a decisive break from the entrenched political order and offers the promise of more inclusive and responsive governance.

Unsurprisingly, this Saturday turbanning of Senator Wadada has triggered unease in some aspirants camps. Sources reveal that emergency strategy meetings have been convened to assess what is now widely referred to as “the Wadada threat.” In a reactionary move, a wave of sponsored media write-ups aimed at downplaying the turbanning event and discrediting its high-profile attendees surfaced almost immediately.

With 2027 fast approaching, Senator Ahmed Wadada’s expanding coalition and growing political capital suggest that Nasarawa State may already be coalescing around one clear frontrunner and that frontrunner is Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu.

Whether one embraces it or resists it, the political game in Nasarawa has changed and Senator Wadada is the one changing it.
