PDP Spokesperson in Nasarawa Dumps Party, Joins APC

By Our Reporter

In a significant political development in Nasarawa State, the Public Relations Officer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Mohammed Hamza, has officially resigned from the party, marking yet another defection in the state’s evolving political landscape.

Hamza, who served as the voice of the PDP in the state, tendered his resignation in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Chiroma Ward, Lafia Local Government Area, on Wednesday. In the letter, he cited “personal reasons” for his departure but did not go into further detail.

“It’s time for me to move on,” Hamza wrote in his brief resignation note. “I will no longer participate in party activities or represent the party in any capacity.”

Shortly after his resignation, Hamza confirmed he was joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a shift in allegiance that could have implications for the PDP’s organizational structure and messaging efforts ahead of future elections.

Hamza’s defection mirrors a broader trend of political realignment across Nasarawa State, where party loyalty often gives way to strategic repositioning ahead of key electoral contests. Analysts suggest that such defections, particularly from strategic roles like that of the party spokesperson, could impact the morale and internal cohesion of opposition parties in the state.

While the PDP is yet to officially respond to Hamza’s resignation, party insiders describe the development as “unexpected,” noting that he had played a pivotal role in shaping the party’s public image in recent years.

On the other hand, APC leaders in the state have welcomed Hamza’s move, describing it as a “boost” to their communications and media engagement team. A senior APC official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the party was open to “experienced political communicators” like Hamza who could contribute to its growing dominance in Nasarawa.

With the 2027 general elections gradually taking shape on the political horizon, defections like Hamza’s are likely to intensify as politicians across party lines jostle for influence, security of political futures, and alignment with winning teams. Observers believe that Hamza’s defection, while not a mass movement, is symbolic and could lead to a ripple effect within PDP’s ranks in the state.

As the PDP grapples with internal restructuring and seeks to regain lost ground in Nasarawa, the loss of a key communicator may pose challenges to its visibility and message consistency.

For now, Ibrahim Mohammed Hamza begins a new chapter in the APC, leaving behind a party he once spoke for, and stepping into a new political terrain.
