Nigerian Army Moves Army Special Forces Training School to the Nasarawa To Boost Security, Development

By Our Reporter

In a move aimed at bolster both security and development in Nasarawa State, the Executive Governor, His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, today Friday, received the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and his Principal Officers on a high-level courtesy visit to the Government House in Lafia.

The visit, which held the air of both ceremony and strategic importance, marked the Nigerian Army Headquarters’ official communication of a landmark decision — the approval to relocate the Nigerian Army Special Forces Training School to Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Governor Sule, known for his proactive leadership style and strong advocacy for security-led development, warmly welcomed the Chief of Army Staff and his delegation, describing the decision as a “major leap forward” for the state’s security architecture and a vote of confidence in its stability and growing relevance.

Lt. Gen. Oluyede, in his remarks, emphasized the strategic relevance of Nasarawa State in Nigeria’s evolving security framework. He noted that the state’s proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, combined with its relatively peaceful environment and supportive governance, made it an ideal location for the elite Special Forces unit to establish its training base.

“This relocation is more than just a structural shift; it is a strategic investment in the future of security and professionalism in the Nigerian Army,” Lt. Gen. Oluyede said.

As part of this new chapter, the Nigerian Army is also set to hold a Foundation Laying Ceremony at the site of the new Special Forces Headquarters in Doma. This event is expected to attract top military brass, key government officials, and security stakeholders, highlighting the significance of the project.

For Nasarawa State, the relocation of the Special Forces Training School is more than a boost to security — it is a harbinger of economic and infrastructural growth. With an increased military presence comes better road networks, improved social amenities, and job opportunities for locals, especially in construction, logistics, and support services.

Governor Sule expressed optimism about the prospects, stating that the presence of the Special Forces Training School will not only help in responding more swiftly to security threats in the North-Central region but also foster deeper collaboration between the military and civilian population.

“This is a strong statement by the Nigerian Army and a step that aligns with our vision to make Nasarawa a hub of peace, investment, and national service,” he said.

As the foundation stone is soon to be laid in Doma, the people of Nasarawa State look ahead with renewed hope. With stronger ties between the government and security institutions, the state is poised to stand taller on Nigeria’s national map — not just as a gateway to the nation’s capital, but as a new center for elite military excellence and regional stability.
