By Our Reporter

In an efforts towards boosting the state’s economy, the Nasarawa Internal Revenue Service (NIRS) has successfully generated ₦16.5 billion in revenue from January to August 2025. This milestone was announced by Ahmed Yakubu, the Executive Chairman of NIRS, during a presentation before the State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

Appearing before the committee for the 2025 second-quarter budget performance review, Alhaji. Yakubu attributed this impressive performance to the unwavering support from Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Nasarawa State House of Assembly. The chairman emphasized that the collaborative efforts between the government and the revenue agency have been instrumental in this financial success.

According to Alhaji. Yakubu, the revenue generated within the eight-month period was sourced from diverse sectors including mining, banks, construction companies, and various other channels. This diversified revenue base not only highlights the state’s economic potential but also the agency’s strategic approach to revenue generation.

“I assure the committee and the people of Nasarawa State of our continued commitment to exploring innovative and effective means to increase government revenue,” Alhaji Yakubu stated, underscoring the agency’s dedication to sustaining and improving its performance.

The Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hudu Alhaji Hudu, praised the NIRS management for their remarkable achievement. He noted that the exercise was a vital step in assessing the agency’s adherence to its budget goals for the second quarter of the year. “We appreciate the strides made by the Internal Revenue Service and encourage them to maintain this positive momentum,” Alhaji Hudu said.

Alhaji Hudu also assured the revenue service of ongoing collaboration and support from the committee to help the agency meet and even exceed its revenue targets in the coming months.

This revenue achievement comes at a crucial time when states across Nigeria are striving to improve internally generated revenue (IGR) to reduce dependency on federal allocations. Nasarawa’s progress sets a commendable example, signaling growing economic activity and efficient revenue mobilization within the state.

As the year progresses, all eyes will be on the Nasarawa Internal Revenue Service to see how it leverages this early success to further solidify the state’s financial foundation and contribute to its socio-economic development.
