In the intricate arena of Nigerian politics, especially within state structures like Nasarawa, leadership is not just a title, it is an institution. Governor Abdullahi Sule stands today not just as the executive governor of Nasarawa State, but as the political leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. As we inch closer to the 2027 general elections, there must be a clear understanding and acknowledgment that every party man and woman, regardless of their stature or ambition, must accord Governor Sule the respect he deserves.
Leadership in politics is earned not only by winning elections, but by holding the party structure together, maintaining stability, and advancing development. Governor Sule has done all three. Since assuming office, he has shown political maturity, administrative competence, and a commitment to party unity, a qualities that cannot be overlooked by any serious-minded politician within the APC. His leadership has brought about relative calm within the party ranks and has also positioned the state for infrastructural and socio-economic development.
For any aspirant eyeing the coveted seat of governor in 2027, it is not just politically wise, but strategically essential to court Governor Sule to his side. He is the sitting governor, and the leader of the party. His influence spans from the grassroots to the national level. Ignoring this reality or attempting to undermine his relevance amounts to nothing short of political naivety and worse, disloyalty.
The notion that one can rise through the party ranks or emerge as a governorship candidate without aligning with the sitting governor is not only flawed, it is a dangerous path. APC in Nasarawa State must not allow itself to be fractured by overambitious individuals who believe they can “go it alone.” Loyalty to the party must start with loyalty to its leadership, and that leadership is currently embodied by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
It is imperative to understand that politics is not a one-man game. Success, especially in Nigerian party politics, is often built on networks, alliances, and endorsements. The endorsement of a sitting governor can never be dismissed as irrelevant. On the contrary, it is a crucial bridge to party cohesion and electoral victory. Therefore, anyone with aspirations for 2027 must begin by seeking Governor Sule’s blessings, not bypassing it.
Respecting Governor Sule is not about sycophancy, it is about recognizing the structure of leadership and the unwritten rules of political engagement. He has earned his stripes through service, and he has the constitutional and moral authority to guide the party toward a smooth transition when the time comes.
As the countdown to 2027 begins, let every stakeholder remember this: unity, loyalty, and respect for the party hierarchy will determine the future of APC in Nasarawa State. And at the center of that hierarchy stands Governor Abdullahi Sule as a leader whose role cannot and must not be ignored.
The road to 2027 must pass through him.
