Editorial: President Tinubu, Gov. Sule, Senator Wadada Rekindle Hope with Keffi-Nasarawa-Toto Road Project

In a nation where critical infrastructure projects often languish due to bureaucratic bottlenecks and political disinterest, the recent approval of a special intervention fund for the Keffi-Nasarawa-Toto Road by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stands out as a shining example of responsive leadership. This decisive move has rekindled hope in Nasarawa State and demonstrated the transformative power of synergy between the legislative and executive arms of government.

At the heart of this success story lies the unwavering advocacy of Governor Abdullahi Sule and Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, the Chairman of the Senate Public Accounts Committee and representative of Nasarawa West Senatorial District. With strategic precision and heartfelt commitment, Governor Abdullahi Sule and Senator Wadada brought national attention to a project that had been neglected for too long. Senator Wadada’s formal request to the President, Tinubu with regards to this very road, dated August 13, 2025, outlined the devastating impact of the road’s dilapidated state on residents, traders, and commuters. Senator wadada’s plea in his letter to the President was not just a plea for asphalt and bitumen, but a passionate call for the restoration of a vital economic and social fabric of citizens of Nasarawa West and indeed, Nasarawa state.

President Tinubu’s swift and affirmative response to Senator Wadada’s plea over the deplorable condition of the road is commendable not only for its timeliness but for the message it sends: that the concerns of ordinary Nigerians will not fall on deaf ears under his leadership. The President’s decision to authorize additional funding for the project reflects his commitment to equitable development and infrastructure renewal across all regions of the country. It also underscores his understanding that national progress begins with local impact.

The Keffi-Nasarawa-Toto Road, spanning 118.01 kilometers, is a lifeline. Its rehabilitation promises to ease travel, reduce accidents, boost trade, attract investment, and restore dignity to communities that have long felt forgotten. With only 3.78% completion recorded after an initial ₦3.5 billion disbursement on the ₦36.1 billion contract awarded to Messrs Wizchino Engineering Limited in August 2024, the need for urgent executive intervention was glaring.

President Tinubu’s approval has breathed new life into the project. And with the scheduled inspection by the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing today, the government has signaled that this is not just another policy pronouncement, but a deliverable priority.

As rehabilitation contract is expected to resume in earnest, this development offers a template for governance rooted in accountability, advocacy, and action. Both Engr. Abdullahi Sule and Senator Wadada have shown what it means to represent with purpose; President Tinubu has shown what it means to lead with empathy.

We commend both leaders for their roles in translating frustration into hope. Their collaboration serves as a model for other regions grappling with similar infrastructural challenges. When legislators advocate sincerely and the executive responds decisively, the people win.

Let the Keffi-Nasarawa-Toto Road project be a turning point, not just for Nasarawa State, but for Nigeria. Let it be a demonstration to what is possible when promises are kept, and leadership works.
