It is both ironic and deeply unfortunate that in a period when Nigeria and indeed Nasarawa State is in dire need of sincere, tested, and visionary leaders, individuals like Abdullahi Dauda Ubana, Esq., choose instead to peddle hollow narratives and personal attacks against Senator wadada
His recent piece, titled: Senator Wadada: “Nasarawa Must Choose Governance Over Ambition”, which appeared in Nasarawa Mirror Today, Sunday 19, October, 2025, is not only misleading but laced with veiled contempt for one of the few leaders in Nasarawa whose record actually speaks of governance above ambition such as Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.
Contrary to Ubana’s insinuations, Senator Wadada’s political journey has never been about blind ambition or self-aggrandizement. From his time in the House of Representatives to his current role in the Senate, Wadada has demonstrated consistency, commitment, and clarity of purpose. His record shows someone who understands the levers of government, values public accountability, and most importantly delivers good results to the benefits of all.
Whether it’s youth empowerment programmes, rural development initiatives, or advocacy for the marginalized, Wadada has consistently put people before politics. He has not only sponsored impactful bills but has been a vocal advocate for infrastructural development, education reform, and inclusive governance. These are not the trademarks of a man chasing power for power’s sake. Senator wadada is actually chasing power for the benefits and progress of the citizens of Nasarawa state, irrespective of tribe or religion. These are indeed the hallmarks of genuine leadership.
Mr Ubana speaks of “governance over ambition,” but he fails to offer a single substantive alternative to the Senator Wadada’s style of leadership that he was not happy with.
Of course, It is easy to throw stones from the sidelines, far harder to stand in the arena and deliver real change. Senator Wadada has done the latter.
The truth is: Nasarawa doesn’t need political theorists seeking for attention at this time, Nasarawa state needs leaders like Wadada who get things done. The recent Keffi- Nasarawa- Toto road federal government intervention are classic example of how Senator Wadada makes things done.
It’s not just about ideas it’s about execution. Senator Wadada’s initiatives have reached thousands of young people across Nasarawa, empowering them with skills and opportunities. His efforts in education, healthcare, and legislative reform have earned him respect not only from his constituents but from across Nasarawa’s political spectrum.
The author speaks of integrity and character, yet attempts to assassinate both in Senator Wadada without offering credible evidence. If anything, Wadada’s political life has been defined by principled stances, such as his decision to contest under a different platform when his former party betrayed democratic ideals. That, in itself, was a courageous stand for democracy not ambition.
Senator Wadada’s ambition is rooted in service. His drive to contest for higher office is not to accumulate power, but to add values to the existing policies, programmes and structures put in place by Engr Abdullahi Sule.
As the political season unfolds, let us not be swayed by some misguided critiques and cleverly worded propaganda. Let the people of Nasarawa decide based on records. And on that count, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada stands far ahead of most.
In a time when many so-called leaders are content with maintaining the status quo, Wadada represents hope, progress, and a future worth building. The people of Nasarawa know this and they will not be distracted by the cynicism of those who prefer shadows to substance.
