In a remarkable show of maturity and commitment to party unity, the Nasarawa State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Aliyu Bello, has again pledged to pursued unity for party progress in the state. This is coming against the backdrop of persistent personal attacks on him from political detractors. The party leader affirmed his decision to rise above internal squabbles in the interest of strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
Speaking on Monday during the formal presentation of Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu to Governor Abdullahi Sule, Dr. Bello acknowledged the need for leadership that transcends personal grievances. “I am now a leader. I will stop responding to anything. Because I want all of us to come together. Whoever emerges as the gubernatorial candidate under the APC, we are going to work for that person,” he said.
This remarks, which marked a turning point in Dr. Bello’s tone, came against the backdrop of growing calls for reconciliation within the party’s ranks, as new political actors prepare to vie for various positions in the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Bello used the occasion to highlight the pivotal role Senator Wadada played during the 2023 general elections, despite having left the party due to what he described as “circumstantial reasons.” He noted that Wadada remained a committed supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abdullahi Sule, working diligently for their electoral victories.
Commending Governor Sule’s leadership, Dr. Bello said the governor’s strides in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security had significantly enhanced the APC’s appeal across the state. “Your Excellency, you have provided the needed and required infrastructure… That is why all the people that are coming to contest for election, they see something good, germane and very important. That’s why they are opting for the APC,” he stated.
With more elected officials reportedly defecting to the APC in Nasarawa State, the chairman’s conciliatory tone may signal a broader effort to consolidate party unity and expand its grassroots appeal.
Political analysts see Dr. Bello’s remarks at time as a calculated but sincere effort to de-escalate tensions and reposition the APC as a more united political force in the state.
The development also comes at a critical time when internal party cohesion is seen as essential to the APC’s future electoral performance. By calling for collective support for whichever candidate emerges during future primaries, Dr. Bello is sending a strong message that party loyalty and unity must supersede personal differences.
As the APC in Nasarawa continues to attract new members and shore up its ranks, party stakeholders are optimistic of victory in 2027.
