The Nigerian Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA), Nasarawa State Chapter, has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and government agencies in Nasarawa state to promote women’s participation and empowerment in agriculture.
Speaking Monday, while on a courtesy visit to the State Chairman of the APC Dr. Aliyu Bello, the State Coordinator of NAWIA, Hajiya Hauwa Abdullahi Muhammed, said the association is committed to enhancing the role of women in agricultural development across the state.
According to Hajiya Hauwa, NAWIA is a national body dedicated to empowering women farmers through capacity building, knowledge sharing, and advocacy. The association’s mission, she explained, is to help women farmers improve their agricultural practices, boost productivity, and attain economic independence.
She noted that empowering women in agriculture is a key driver of sustainable development and economic growth in Nigeria, particularly in agrarian states like Nasarawa.
According her, NAWIA proposed several areas of collaboration with the state government, including securing official state registration for the association, establishing a state office in Lafia, forming a state executive committee, and sponsoring sensitization training sessions on the role of women in agriculture.
“These initiatives will enable us to strengthen our presence, coordinate our activities effectively, and reach more women farmers across the state,” Hajiya Hauwa stated.
She emphasized that NAWIA’s collaboration with the Nasarawa State Government would greatly benefit women farmers, enhance food security, and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
She said NAWIA will available for further discussion on partnership opportunities and NAWIA’s plans for supporting agricultural development in Nasarawa State.
Responding, the chairman of APC, Dr Aliyu Bello while welcoming them to his office assured them of all necessary support to ensure smooth take off of NAWIA in Nasarawa state.
