Nasarawa State House of Assembly is set to pass into law bill establishing State Youth Empowerment Agency to enable its personnel undergo skills acquisition training.
The Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau stated this following the adoption of report seeking to amend the existing law during the House plenary today in Lafia.
It would be recalled that the Nasarawa State Government had established State Agency for Youth Empowerment Scheme known as NAYES saddled with the responsibility of complementing the role of statutory bodies in the area of sanitation, traffic and security.
To legalize the scheme and improve the salary package and skills of the personnel, the member representing Lafia Central constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Hon. Solomon Yakubu AKwashiki forwarded a private member bill in that regards.
The amended bill tagged “A Bill for a Law to Amend the Nasarawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment Scheme NAYES and for Other Matters Connected Thereto after months of legislative inputs, the report on the bill was adopted.
The Speaker of the House Dr. Danladi Jatau said the report has 12 recommendations which were all adopted by the House and the bill is among other things seeking to subject the personnel of the scheme to relevant skills acquisition training to enable them contribute to state economy.
According to the Speaker, the new bill will now be refers to as Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Agency NAYEA and slated 26th of this month for 3rd reading and passage of the bill into law.
If the bill is finally passed into law on the 26th of this month, the scheme shall be known and addressed as Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Agency, NAYEA.
Similarly, during the Monday’s plenary the House considered for second reading bills to name Banquet Hall Government House in Lafia after late Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma and Presidential Lodge in Government House Lafia after Senator Umaru Tanko Almakura.
Where the Speaker committed the bills to the House Standing Committee on Works to report back to the House on 24th and 25th of this month for the two bills respectively.
During the sitting, the Speaker of the House Dr. Danladi Jatau read a letter from the Governor seeking the confirmation of the appointment of Kefas Julius Bala from Karu Local Government as the State Auditor General where the House directed the nominee to submit 30 copies of his CV and appear for screening on Wednesday this week.
In the same vein, during the sitting, the House observed a minute salience in honour of Pioneer Deputy Governor of the State, former Senator and former Minister, an elder statesman, Barr. Solomon Ewuga who was buried at the weekend.
