The state Commissioner on Special Duties (Security), retired Police Commissioner Usman Baba handed down the warning in an interview shortly after a brief closed door meeting with the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe and the state Commissioner of Police Shettima Jauro Mohammed in the office of the deputy governor.
He said they were in the Deputy Governor’s Office to update him about the rescue of two prospecting Corps Members who were abducted on their way to NYSC camp in Taraba State, calling on citizens and social media handlers to avoid creating unecessary panic in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro Mohammed, expressed concern over the peddling of fake rumours of abductions in the state.
According to the state Commissioner of Police, the rumours making the rounds of incessant abductions in parts of the state followed the rescue of two prospecting Corps Members who were recently abducted by some assailants in Nasarawa Eggon, on their way from Lagos to Taraba state.
According to the police Commissioner, his men moved to cordon off the area where the abduction took place and conducted thorough operation within the Nasarawa Eggon axis which led to the rescue of the victims.
He dispelled rumours of the surge in abductions in Lafia and Doma within the week, affirming that apart from the case of the two Corps Members whose commercial vehicle was intercepted by the unknown assailants at about nine in the evening of nineteenth November, 2025, there was no such report in any part of the state as at press time.
Shettima Jauro Mohammed cautioned residents of the state to desist from spreading fake rumours and solicited for credible information on suspected criminal activities, assuring of confidentiality.
