Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, has praised the organisers of the International Polo Tournament in Support of Education 2025 for using sports as a platform to foster national unity and uplift underprivileged children.

Barau, who attended the event at the Keffi Polo Ranch in Nasarawa State on Sunday as part of the ranch’s 10th anniversary celebration, described the tournament as “an impressive gathering that further enhances Nigeria’s sporting potential.”

The event drew notable personalities from across the country and beyond, including Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu (Nasarawa West), who also featured as one of the players. In the highlight match of the day, Malcon Nes defeated Keffi Phonys with a scoreline of 9–6, delighting spectators with a thrilling display of skill.

Barau told journalists that sports remain a powerful tool for promoting unity among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups.
“Events like this bring people together from different backgrounds and help strengthen national cohesion,” he said.

He commended Senator Wadada for his commitment to sustaining the annual tournament, noting its continuous impact on society. Barau recalled that previous editions raised funds to support indigent children who lacked access to education, a tradition that has been maintained in this year’s event.

The Deputy Senate President described the colourful and well-attended ceremony as a moment of joy and a testament to the role of sports in community development, national unity, and social support.
