Sen. Wadada Hails Gov. Sule’s Disability Commission, Calls for Stronger Push for Inclusive Development

Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu has applauded Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, for establishing the state’s Disability Commission, describing the move as a significant milestone in advancing the rights and welfare of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).

Wadada said the creation of the commission demonstrates a clear commitment to strengthening institutional support for PWDs, noting that such structures are essential for driving meaningful change. According to him, the commission will help expand access to assistive technologies, promote inclusive education, enhance economic empowerment programmes, and improve social protection systems for persons living with disabilities.

The senator made the remark as Nigeria joined the rest of the world to mark the 2025 International Day of Persons With Disabilities. In his message, he underscored the need for governments at all levels, institutions, and communities to work collectively to eliminate the social and structural barriers that continue to hinder the full participation of PWDs in society.

He stressed that many of these obstacles—from inaccessible public infrastructure to lingering discriminatory attitudes—must be tackled with urgency and sincerity if Nigeria is to achieve genuine social progress.

Wadada reiterated that the year’s theme, “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress,” is a reminder that true development can only be attained when every individual is given the opportunity to contribute to national growth.

He noted that building an inclusive society goes beyond policy statements, requiring sustained action, collaboration, and investment in systems that empower persons with disabilities to live independently and with dignity.

“As we commemorate this year’s International Day of Persons With Disabilities, we must renew our commitment to ensuring that no citizen is left behind,” he said, emphasizing that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and its ability to create space for all to succeed.

Sen. Wadada concluded by pledging continued advocacy for policies that uphold dignity, equality, and accessibility for all Nigerians, particularly those living with disabilities.
