The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty by CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, mnips, fwc, psc (+), as the 30th Commissioner of Police for the State. He takes over from CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, who has been redeployed to the Police Staff College, Jos, as Deputy Commandant on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command described the new Commissioner as a seasoned officer with extensive operational and administrative experience. CP Chuso appealed for continued cooperation from residents and stakeholders to collectively address the growing security challenges across the State.
Born in Sokoto South LGA of Sokoto State, CP Chuso holds a degree in Agricultural Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a Cadet ASP and trained at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
Over his three decades of service, he has held several key positions, including Deputy Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos; Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations and CID in Kano State; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Delta State; and Pioneer Area Commander of Argungu in Kebbi State.
He has also served in administrative and instructional capacities in Kebbi and Kaduna States, as well as at FCID (Interpol) Abuja. His experience spans postings as Divisional Police Officer in numerous divisions across Sokoto, Kebbi, and Jigawa States.
CP Chuso has attended professional courses both within and outside Nigeria, including training in tactical leadership, combat operations, higher military strategy, human rights protection in the United States, and advanced detective operations. He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Police Studies.
The new Commissioner emphasized the importance of community partnership in achieving lasting security. He urged traditional rulers, community and youth leaders, religious institutions, and residents to collaborate with the Police by providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and rapid response.
He assured the public of his commitment to enhancing safety, protecting lives and property, and maintaining peace and order throughout Nasarawa State.
The statement added that CP Chuso, who enjoys reading and playing badminton, is married and blessed with children.
The Command called for patience and cooperation as the new Police Commissioner begins efforts to strengthen security architecture across the State.
