Maifata Urges Lafia LG Staff to Support New Acting Chairman as Leadership Transition Takes Effect

The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata, has called on the staff and management of Lafia Local Government Council to extend their full support to the newly appointed Acting Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Uba Ibrahim (Tafidan Arikya), as the council undergoes a leadership transition.

Maifata emphasized that the effectiveness of the new administration will depend greatly on the cooperation and professionalism of the council workforce. He urged them to remain committed to their duties and to work harmoniously with the Acting Chairman in the interest of stability, development, and service delivery.

His appeal came during a high-level meeting with Executive Chairmen of Local Government Areas in Nasarawa State, convened to discuss the implementation of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly’s resolution suspending the substantive Chairman of Lafia Local Government Council, Hon. Mohammed Alhaji Arabo. The Assembly had also approved the appointment of Uba Arikya to steer the affairs of the council for a three-month period, pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.

Presiding over the meeting, Maifata described the appointment as a crucial step aimed at ensuring continuity in governance and preventing administrative vacuum within the Lafia Council. He praised Arikya’s administrative record and expressed confidence in his ability to manage the council with maturity and foresight.

According to the Commissioner, the new Acting Chairman is expected to “bring in his wealth of experience and expertise towards fostering unity, improving the welfare of the people, promoting peace, and driving robust and impactful development in Lafia Local Government Council.”

Maifata encouraged Arikya to prioritize inclusive leadership, strengthen community engagement, and uphold the principles of transparency and accountability. He also urged the Executive Chairmen present to remain steadfast in their commitment to the collective progress of the state’s local governments.

The meeting, which brought together heads of local government councils from across Nasarawa State, focused on ensuring seamless governance processes and reinforcing the role of local administrations in grassroots development.

As the three-month interim leadership begins, stakeholders in Lafia and beyond will be watching closely to see how the Acting Chairman navigates the transition and implements strategies to sustain peace, unity, and development within the council.
