As Governor Abdullahi Sule on Friday laid the foundation stone for the proposed University of Public Relations and Leadership in Gudi, Nasarawa State, Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu has commended the governor for what he described as a landmark achievement.
Senator Wadada said the establishment of the university would position Nasarawa State prominently on the global map of governance, strategic communication, innovation, and leadership development.
In a statement issued in Lafia, the senator—who is a ranking lawmaker and a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (FNIPR), the highest professional status in public relations practice in Nigeria—described Governor Sule as a leader whose legacy will endure in the state. He noted that siting the university in Nasarawa further aligns the state with global standards in communication and leadership training.
He applauded the governor for what he called a bold and visionary intervention, stressing that the creation of a specialised university dedicated to public relations and leadership demonstrates a deep understanding of the critical role strategic communication plays in modern governance, national cohesion, and public trust.
Senator Wadada also offered prayers for continuity beyond the current administration, expressing hope that a future leader would not only sustain Governor Sule’s legacy but strengthen it—particularly by ensuring the growth, stability, and international relevance of the University of Public Relations and Leadership.
Observers at the event noted the significance of the prayer, given Senator Wadada’s towering credentials within the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and his long-standing advocacy for ethical, professional, and development-driven communication practice.
As a Fellow of the Institute, Wadada belongs to an elite group of practitioners recognised for exceptional contribution, experience, and integrity in public relations. Fellowship of the NIPR represents the pinnacle of the profession in Nigeria, symbolising mastery, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to ethical standards. His endorsement of the university therefore carries considerable weight, positioning him as a critical stakeholder in its realisation and long-term sustainability.
The foundation-laying ceremony marks a significant milestone in Nasarawa State’s evolution toward knowledge-driven governance and institutional development. With deliberate collaboration between the state government and professional bodies such as the NIPR, the new university is expected to produce a generation of leaders and communicators equipped to manage public trust, navigate governance communication, and respond to the complex demands of national and global leadership.
The project signals Nasarawa State’s rising political and intellectual profile—a state investing in ideas, people, and institutions designed to outlive individual administrations. In this vision, the convergence of Governor Sule’s developmental agenda and Senator Wadada’s FNIPR pedigree reflects a shared belief that leadership in the 21st century begins with communication, credibility, and character.
