The Chairman of the Senate Public Accounts Committee (SPAC) and Senator representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Sen. Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, has paid glowing tribute to his late colleague, Sen. Godiya Akwashiki (1973–2025), describing his death as a profound personal and legislative loss.
In a heartfelt statement which he personally signed, Senator Wadada said he was overwhelmed with grief over the passing of Senator Akwashiki, noting that the void left by his demise remains deeply felt. He described the late senator as a brother and dependable colleague whose contributions to legislative duties were marked by commitment, insight, and a shared dedication to the development of their respective constituencies.
“Our legislative functions were full of mutual support, shaping conversations that deeply resonated with the needs of our districts,” Wadada said. “His ability to provide viable solutions during consultations was remarkable, and those moments will be greatly missed.”
The senator admitted that he was still struggling to come to terms with the loss but found comfort in his faith, acknowledging what he described as Allah’s unquestionable wisdom and the inevitability of mortality.
Senator Wadada emphasized that the legacy of the late Senator Akwashiki deserves to be immortalised, noting that his life was one of service and accomplishment. He extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Nasarawa North Senatorial District, and the entire Nasarawa State, urging them to take solace in the enduring impact of the late lawmaker’s contributions.
“While we mourn, we should be comforted that he lived an accomplished life that will remain a lifelong memory,” he said, praying that Senator Akwashiki’s good works would continue to inspire others.
Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who died in 2025 at the age of 52, was widely regarded as a committed legislator and leader. His passing has continued to draw tributes from colleagues, political leaders, and constituents across the state and beyond.
