Serving And Former Nasarawa Speakers, Jatau, Balarabe, Ahmed Speaks On Late Sen. Godiya Akwashiki.

“… describe him as resourceful, uncommon legislator, a good product that left unique and outstanding legacy…”

…….. He served as Deputy Speaker to Balarabe in 5th Assembly, Majority Leader to Ahmed in 4th Assembly, a colleague to the incumbent Speaker Jatau 2011 to 2015.

The Senator, representing the Northern Zone of Nasarawa State, Godiya AKwashiki was buried at the weekend, Saturday, 17th January, 2026 with eulogies on his style of representation which has torched the lives of most vulnerable people in the society.

Sen. Godiya Akwashiki died on 31st December, 2025 in an Indian hospital as a result of prolonged illness at the age of 52.

From 2011 to the time of his demise, Sen. Godiya AKwashiki served as both State and Federal Lawmaker and made great legislative impact while alive.

The death of the senator representing the Nassarawa Northern Senatorial District, Godiya Akwashiki no doubt could be best described in words of a Nigerian playwright, Prof. Wole Soyinka that “An Iroko Tree has Fallen” not just for the Eggon Nation but the State and the Nation at large.

Akwashiki was described by many as a philanthropist who came to limelight in 2011 when he was elected to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly where he became the Majority Leader of the 4th Assembly, under Rt. Hon. Musa Ahmed Muhammad as the Speaker and Akwashiki served as an intermediary between the Legislature and the Executive.

Even though he is no more, but the Speaker of the 4th Assembly and now the State Accountant General, Dr. Musa Ahmed still recall the legislative potentials of late Senator Godiya Akwashiki describing him as a resourceful and uncommon legislator.

“He was a good product, good thinking that upcoming politicians should emulate his imputs both at the State and National Assembly, let’s emulate him, we lost him at a time we all need him most, but at a time his creator needed him more than we do” He said.

Given his quality representation which enticed his Constituents, the then Majority Leader of the 4th Assembly and member representing Nasarawa Eggon West was reelected in 2015 and this time around returned as a Deputy Speaker of the 5th Assembly under Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi.

The then Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi still recall how reliable, Senator AKwashiki was describing him as a man of honour, integrity, a loyal servant who can be trusted with any assignment and responsibilities without any doubt.

“He was my trusted Deputy Speaker, I saw him then as a brother, a friend and with him with any assignment and him around I go home and sleep, may God Almighty forgive his shortcomings and reward his good deeds” Balarabe said.

As a member of the State Assembly, Godiya AKwashiki embarked on array of interventions that have transformed lives thus receiving a clarion call to represent the Northern Senatorial District of the State in 2019.

This according to the present Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Dr. Danladi Jatau was not surprised considering Akwashiki’s impact on his people hence the Clarion call to the senate.

Dr. Jatau who were colleague with Akwashiki in the 4th Assembly described him as a true representative of the people.

“An Iroko Tree has fallen, a painful exit and a great loss to Eggon nation, the State and Nigeria as a whole” He said.

“He was a patriotic citizen, an outstanding leader and Legislator, we will all missed him and his contributions” He added.

While in the Senate, Sen. AKwashiki aside serving as the mouth piece of the Red Chamber chaired many committees including Labour and Productivity and in the area of execution of capital projects and social interventions, stakeholders at his Night of Tribute acknowledged that he was one of the best Senators the State ever produced.

Senator Godiya Akwashiki served in the last 9th Senator between 2019 to 2023 and was re-elected in 2023, he was serving in the present 10th Senate before his demise.

Speaker Jatau, Balarabe Abdullahi and Musa Ahmed Muhammad all acknowledged his admiration and goodwill driven by hard work and compassion for the vulnerable in the society and a great parliamentarian.

Senator Godiya AKwashiki who died at the age of 52, can still be remembered for bringing soccour to the rural dwellers in the area of road construction, electrification, empowerment and other social interventions.
