Nasarawa State Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s business environment as he received officials of the Nasarawa State Traders and Marketers Association on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Lafia.
The delegation, led by the State Chairman of the association, Alhaji Musa Aliyu Turakin Gamji, paid the visit shortly after the conclusion of their Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Lafia. The traders used the opportunity to brief the governor on the outcome of their meeting and to seek government support in accessing loan facilities from the Bank of Industry (BoI) to boost their business capital base.
Speaking on behalf of the association, Alhaji Turakin Gamji commended Governor Sule for his trader-friendly policies and the ongoing efforts of the state government to improve commercial activities across Nasarawa State. He specifically applauded the construction of modern markets in different parts of the state, describing the initiative as a major step toward creating a conducive environment for trade, improving hygiene standards, and enhancing economic growth.
According to him, access to affordable financing remains one of the biggest challenges facing traders and marketers in the state. He noted that with the right support and linkages to institutions such as the Bank of Industry, local traders would be better positioned to expand their businesses, create jobs, and contribute more meaningfully to the state’s economy.
In his response, Governor Abdullahi Sule welcomed the association and acknowledged the critical role traders and marketers play in driving economic development at the grassroots level. He reiterated that his administration prioritizes private sector growth, small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), and inclusive economic policies.
The governor assured the delegation that the state government would explore ways of supporting the association, including facilitating engagements with relevant financial institutions to improve access to credit. He emphasized that empowering traders through infrastructure development and financial support aligns with the broader vision of building a resilient and diversified economy for Nasarawa State.
Governor Sule also encouraged the traders to maintain unity, transparency, and accountability within their association, stressing that organized groups are better positioned to benefit from government programmes and interventions.
The courtesy visit ended on a cordial note, with members of the association expressing optimism that sustained collaboration with the state government would further enhance trade and commerce across Nasarawa State.
