Nasarawa State Governor, His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, on Thursday, 29 January 2026, made an unscheduled stop at the construction site of the University of Public Relations and Leadership (UPRL) in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area, while returning from Abuja.
The visit underscored the state government’s commitment to educational development and strategic leadership training, as work has officially commenced on the site of what is being described as a global institution—the first and only university of its kind in the world dedicated to public relations and leadership studies.
During the inspection, Governor Sule expressed satisfaction with the level of activity already taking place on the site, noting that the commencement of construction marks a significant milestone for Nasarawa State and the country at large. He emphasized that the establishment of UPRL aligns with the administration’s vision of positioning the state as a hub for specialized education and capacity building.
The Governor, however, stressed the importance of timely project delivery without compromising quality. He charged contractors and relevant stakeholders to ensure that work progresses at an accelerated pace while strictly adhering to approved specifications and global standards.
“This institution is of international importance. While speed is necessary, quality and standard must never be sacrificed,” Governor Sule said during the visit. “UPRL is expected to compete globally, and the foundation we lay today will determine its future relevance and impact.”
The University of Public Relations and Leadership is expected to attract students, scholars, and professionals from across Nigeria and beyond, offering specialized training in communication, leadership, governance, and strategic public engagement. Its location in Gudi, Akwanga LGA, is also anticipated to stimulate economic activities and infrastructural development in the area.
Officials at the site briefed the Governor on the current phase of construction and assured him of their commitment to meeting project timelines while maintaining best practices.
Governor Sule’s visit has been widely seen as a morale booster for workers on site and a clear signal of the administration’s hands-on approach to key developmental projects. As construction progresses, expectations remain high that UPRL will become a landmark institution that enhances Nasarawa State’s educational profile on the global stage.
