Lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly have declared their support for the party’s arrangement for executive members at all levels to emerge through consensus ahead of the forthcoming congresses.
The lawmakers made their position known on Tuesday after their 9th Caucus Meeting held at the State Assembly Complex in Lafia.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, said the caucus unanimously resolved to adopt the consensus option, describing it as a strategy capable of reducing tension and preventing internal crises within the party.
According to him, the lawmakers also passed a vote of confidence on the APC leadership at all levels, expressing trust in the decisions and direction of the party.
The caucus meeting, which was held at the office of the Majority Leader, was attended by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Adamu Oyanki, and other APC members of the Assembly.
Azara explained that the meeting was convened to strengthen unity among party members and to chart a way forward for the progress of the APC in Nasarawa State beyond 2027.
“We have discussed issues of unity, peace and progress of the party. We are united and we are going to remain united and loyal to the party in the state,” he said.
He added that the lawmakers’ decision was in line with resolutions reached by party leaders and stakeholders during a recent meeting at the Government House in Lafia.
“We have also declared support for the party’s arrangements on consensus regarding the upcoming congresses. What our leaders and stakeholders agreed at the Government House meeting is the position we have adopted in the interest of unity, peace and progress of the party,” Azara stated.
The Majority Leader further assured that APC lawmakers would continue to work closely with party stakeholders to ensure sustained electoral success for the party in the state.
He also reaffirmed the lawmakers’ commitment to teamwork within the House and collaboration with the executive arm of government for the development of Nasarawa State.
“We will continue to work in unity and synergise with stakeholders and government for the progress of the state,” he said.
