The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Engr. Abubakar Bello as Chairman of the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NASERC), alongside five other nominees as commissioners of the commission.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, announced the confirmation on Tuesday in Lafia after the nominees appeared for screening during the plenary.
Those confirmed include Engr. Muhammad Dan-Iya Dauda as Commissioner for Technical Regulation, who will also serve as Vice Chairman of the Commission; Dr. Moses A. Arigu as Commissioner for Economic Regulation and Consumer Affairs Division; Engr. Ahmed Al-Mustapha Usman as Commissioner for Rural Electrification Access Management; Mr. Ubam A. Adego (JP) as Commissioner for Finance and Administration; and Barr. Mohammed Jibrin Aboke as Commissioner for Legal and Licensing.
In his remarks, Speaker Jatau urged the newly confirmed chairman and commissioners to deploy their wealth of experience toward changing the narrative of power supply in the state. He emphasized the need for them to ensure stable and constant electricity for residents.
While congratulating the appointees on what he described as well-deserved appointments, the Speaker also advised them to live above board and strictly adhere to the law establishing the commission as passed by the Assembly. He subsequently directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolution of the House to Governor Abdullahi Sule for necessary action.
Several lawmakers, including Hon. Daniel Ogah Ogazi, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Muhammad Oyanki, Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, and Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar, also charged the commission to prioritize uninterrupted power supply and operate within the legal framework guiding its activities.
Speaking with journalists shortly after his confirmation, Engr. Abubakar Bello assured residents of improved electricity supply in the state. He stated that the commission’s mandate includes the generation, transmission, maintenance, and distribution of electricity.
“Now that the power supply is decentralized, by the special grace of God, there will be constant power supply in the state,” Bello said.
He further pledged to attract investors to the state’s power sector to ensure sustainable and stable electricity supply at all times.
