All Progressives Congress stakeholders in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have resolved to work in unity to ensure a hitch-free and peaceful ward congress across the area, adopting the consensus method in line with the party’s guidelines.
The resolution was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Local Government Guest House in Garaku at the commencement of the ward congress.
Addressing party members, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, re-emphasized the need for unity and peaceful conduct throughout the exercise. He urged members to place the party’s interest above personal ambitions to secure continued electoral victories beyond 2027.
“Today is the day the national leadership of our great party has fixed for the conduct of ward congresses. Critical stakeholders of Kokona LGA have met to deliberate on how to ensure a peaceful and successful exercise,” he said.
Dr. Jatau noted that the stakeholders had agreed to abide by the party’s decision to adopt consensus in electing ward executives, assuring that the area would remain one of the most peaceful in the state during political activities. He expressed optimism that the process would be transparent, rancour-free, and in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
Also speaking at the meeting, the State Commissioner for Education, John Mamman, described the meeting as fruitful and successful. He confirmed that ward executive members would be elected through consensus to promote unity, peace, progress, and development within the party.
According to him, Dr. Jatau will serve as leader of the ward congress in Bassa District, while Daniel Ogah Ogazi will oversee the exercise in Garaku. Other stakeholders, including Prof. Abdulkarim Kana and party leaders across various wards, were assigned responsibilities to coordinate the process.
Mamman urged members to remain orderly and ensure that the exercise reflects the party’s commitment to transparency and internal democracy.
The meeting was attended by several key figures, including former and serving lawmakers, local government officials, and party executives from across Kokona LGA, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful and successful ward congress.
