In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Jibrin Gwamna, the Speaker extended warm felicitations to Muslims for witnessing the new month of Ramadan and successfully ushering in the 2026 fasting period. He also identified with the Christian community on the commencement of this year’s Lent, which marks the beginning of the 40-day fasting and prayer.

He enjoined both Muslims and Christians to offer fervent prayers for leaders at all levels to succeed in their responsibilities, and to pray for the state and the country to overcome emerging challenges.
Dr. Jatau also appealed to well-to-do individuals to support the less privileged in society to enable them observe the fasting with ease, stressing the importance of charity and compassion during the holy period.
He urged believers to adhere strictly to the ethics and guiding principles of the spiritual exercises in order to reap the full rewards and blessings associated with them. The Speaker further encouraged religious leaders to use the period to preach peace, unity and togetherness among their followers to promote an egalitarian society where development can thrive.
