PEACE AND STABILITY IN NIGERIA: CITIZEN CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION AMID RISING INSECURITY

By Staff Reporter
A concerned Nigerian citizen, Rabi’u Garba Sufyan, has called on the Federal Government to take decisive and immediate action to address the worsening security situation in Northern Nigeria, describing the current state of affairs as alarming and destabilizing.
In a public appeal titled “Peace and Stability in Nigeria: An Appeal from a Concerned Citizen,” Sufyan lamented the persistent wave of killings, kidnappings, and destruction of property across the northern region. According to him, the ongoing violence has created widespread fear and panic among residents, severely crippling economic activities and undermining development.
He also expressed concern over reports of alleged persecution and attacks on Northerners residing in the southern part of the country, warning that such incidents threaten national unity and peaceful coexistence.
“These developments are unacceptable and require a unified response from all stakeholders,” he stated, urging Nigerians to collectively condemn acts of violence regardless of ethnic, regional, or religious differences.
As part of his recommendations, Sufyan proposed the temporary suspension of mining and mineral exploration activities across the federation, particularly in the North, until adequate security is restored and affected communities are safeguarded. He argued that such a measure could help reduce conflicts over resources, create space for the rehabilitation of impacted communities, and allow security agencies to concentrate efforts on restoring stability.
Beyond security interventions, he emphasized the need for a comprehensive strategy that prioritizes dialogue, community engagement, and economic empowerment to tackle the root causes of the crises.
Sufyan concluded his appeal by calling on Nigerians to unite in pursuit of peace and national stability.
“Nigeria and her citizenry need and deserve peace,” he said.
