The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to remain loyal to Governor Abdullahi Sule and the party leadership, particularly regarding the choice of the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Jatau made the call when he received members of the Nasarawa State Forum of Local Government Speakers from the 13 local government areas of the state during a courtesy visit at the Assembly Complex in Lafia.
The Speaker emphasized that party members must demonstrate patience and unity by supporting the decision of the governor and party leadership on the selection of the party’s governorship flag bearer.
According to him, loyalty to the governor and the party is essential to maintaining peace and unity within the APC as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 elections.
“Governor Sule’s decision on who becomes the party’s flag bearer is a collective decision. We must remain loyal to the government and the party leadership. Therefore, we should exercise patience and wait for the governor’s decision,” Jatau said.
He also advised the local government speakers not to declare support for any governorship aspirant for now, urging them to emulate the state legislature by maintaining strong collaboration with their respective local government executives to promote peace, unity and development in their areas.
The Speaker further urged the local legislators to carry out their oversight functions effectively and ensure that funds appropriated in annual budgets are properly utilized for the benefit of the people.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Forum and Speaker of Lafia Local Government Council, Hon. Muhammad Shuaibu Madaki, described Jatau as one of the best speakers the state has produced, praising his leadership and commitment to legislative responsibilities.
Madaki said the forum members were in the Assembly to identify with the Speaker and commend his leadership style in piloting the affairs of the Seventh Assembly.
The forum also passed a vote of confidence on Jatau, citing his dedication and performance as Speaker.
In a related development, Jatau also hosted members of the Power Bike Riders Association of Nigeria, Nasarawa State chapter, who visited the Assembly to congratulate him on his emergence as the Deputy National Chairman of the APC Speakers Forum for the North Central zone.
During the visit, the association urged the Speaker to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing the Keffi, Karu and Kokona federal constituency in the 2027 general elections.
Responding, Jatau accepted the call, saying leadership comes from God and encouraging the association to continue working towards his political aspirations.
He thanked the group for recognizing his contributions with an award for outstanding leadership and support for community development, promising to sustain his commitment to service.
President of the association, Maiwada Sidi, described the Speaker as a grassroots politician whose leadership style has endeared him to many across the state.
He also assured the Speaker of the association’s support in his political journey beyond 2027.
The association later presented Jatau with an award for outstanding leadership and unwavering support for community development and selfless service.
